Couldn't be better!
Pros:

What a wonderful experience it was spending five days at this lovely resort! Hubby and I decided to take a much needed break and I was able to score a room just a week before we left! The location is PERFECT. One block to the beach. Restaurants within walking distance. There is an outdoor pool, and an indoor pool! Our suite was so comfortable and lovely with two queen beds with the most comfortable mattresses you could imagine. There were two couches in the front room along with a very modern and functional kitchenette, including two burners for stovetop cooking, as well as a full-size refrigerator/freezer! There was a TV in the front living area and also one in the bedroom. Our suite had hardwood floors which gave it an upscale look. Fully air conditioned and with a window you could open in the bedroom. Very secure with keycard lock to enter the suite. It was quieter than I could have imagined, with very little outdoor noise on the wraparound balcony. Two chairs and a small table outside the room on the balcony which were great to sit on day or evening, to enjoy the fresh air and listen to the ocean. There are also washers and dryers available as well as ice machines. Beach tags are loaned to you for your visit. And the biggest luxury and surprise was that they present you with a beach bag containing beach towels for your use during your stay. After using them at the beach you just return the used towels to the office, and they give you fresh ones to use the next time you go to the beach during your stay! At the end of your visit, you can keep the bag itself as your gift! I could not be happier with this resort and location. Also the staff were so friendly and helpful, from front desk, maintenance and housekeeping. We are looking forward to our next stay!

Cons:

The staff were not very pleasant in the office but the cleaning staff were excellent. The photos online made the rooms look big and it was very small size.

Great stay at Desert Sands Resort
Pros:

The front desk staff at the Desert Sands Resort were friendly and helpful. They provided us with towels for the pool and beach as well as passes for the beach. The room was very clean, the cleaning staff were exceptionally polite and efficient. The beach was only a short walk away, 3-4 minutes, and our proximity to both downtown Avalon and Stone Harbor was great. Overall our experience was excellent and would return here if we visited Avalon again.

Well-Known as a Great Place to Stay
Pros:

Over Memorial Day weekend, we stayed in a two bedroom suite at Desert Sands and had a really nice experience. The suite was very clean and the efficiency kitchen’s full size fridge and coffeemaker was perfect for what we needed. The staff was friendly and welcoming during the reservation process and throughout our stay. The living room area had a loveseat and chair, and while a larger couch or additional seating would have made it even more comfortable, we were able to use the dining chairs when everyone was together. I grew up vacationing in Avalon, and Desert Sands has always been known as a great place to stay. It still lives up to that reputation.

Terrible
Pros:

I was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The room felt dirty and poorly maintained, and overall the place was disgusting compared to what was advertised. I also had almost no privacy during my stay, which made me extremely uncomfortable and unable to relax. The experience was frustrating from start to finish, and I would not recommend staying here.

Pros:

Our late check in was easily accommodated. Didn't have the best beach weather during our stay but took advantage of the heated indoor pool instead. Short, easy walk to the beach. Easy access to other businesses in town. No complaints at all.

Pros:

Room was spacious and clean. We didn’t use any of the facilities but they looked clean and well-maintained. Good location.

Cons:

Staff was not very friendly or all that helpful. We asked for an early check-in, as we were driving from out of state for a wedding that started at 4 pm. We understood early check-in could not be guaranteed, but the front desk told us they would text us as soon as our room was ready. They did not. When we arrived, someone else said the room was ready, which was great but we wasted time driving around when we could have got into the room if they texted or called when it was actually ready.

Also 10 am checkout time seemed to be an outlier in the area - friends staying at various other hotels in the area had a later (11 am) checkout. Here, the staff knocked on the door at 9:30 to remind us we needed to be out by 10.

Good place for a short stay.
Pros:

Great location for Avalon. Quiet room. AC worked well. Staff was approachable and helpful.

Cons:

The rooms are condos. Our room was very plain and was stocked different than the room our friends stayed in. No dishwasher. Limited supplies for us to eat in the room.

We'll be back!
Pros:

We loved the layout! The table was big enough for playing games- a rarity in a motel. The couch was comfortable enough that we watched a movie. Jessica was amazing. She answered our questions quickly and was super kind.

We loved everything.
