Good location
The mattress in room 231 really really needs replacing! It’s lumpy and rolls to the middle- two nights later and I’m still trying to get the kink out of my back.
Location, accommodating staff, comfortable,
Signs of neglect, disposal didn’t work so the drain in kitchen sink smelled, it had a kitchen but not one spoon in utensils, carpets are really dingy and very watered down coffee.
My Granddaughter says the pool
Nothing we stay there a lot
Easy to find off interstate
Not clean, way too crowded in breakfast area, very disorganized and no room
Location was good. Room was clean and comfortable. Also spacious. Plenty of towels and supplies
Had stayed at Home2 in N Conway in Dec that was much nicer than this one. Was kind of disappointed in quality.
Pool was horrible - very small and not all that clean. Seemed quite old.
And the complimentary “breakfast” was very bad. Not much choice of anything. Fruit was especially sparse.
We travel to Portland for annual trips, we've tried other area locations which we really love. We tried this location because the Home 2 in our home time is really great.
Our first impression of the hotel when entering was met with a very high chlorine presence in the main lobby from the pool which is an indication of used chlorine presence which has gassing off from the pool.
We found stains on our bed sheets that had obviously been laundered but not discarded. The stain was a dark red/maroon color. We stripped the bed to find a very large yellow stain on the mattress itself encompassing over 30% of the mattress. We took pictures of stained sheets and mattress to the front desk. They said they would change the sheets. I asked for a new mattress, they responded by saying that was out of the question and fused to change the mattress out. I asked for it to be treated, they said yes, When we got back to our room that evening, the mattress was still the same, untreated and unflipped. No attempt at all to service or treat the mattress.
There were stains on the bathmat the first morning, the new bath mat had a tear/rip. We observed food crumbs in the hallway on the 3rd floor and spilled food on the main lobby floor in front of the elevator.
The breakfast area had an appliance that was out of order but was not signed as such. It didn't work. So instead of removing the appliance or putting a sign on it, it was just left there. There was confusion and many guests also tried to operate the conveyor toaster, it was left to guests to communicate to other guests that the appliance did not work.
Overall, not an experience worth repeating. Won't be back.
Price point versus deliverable
Price was so good, I have 0 complaints
The interior spaces were great- we liked the spacious lobby and breakfast area. The layout of our king suite with a sofabed and kitchen and dining area was great! The bed and bedding felt great.
The carpet had several large dark stains both in the living room area and in the bedroom- the hotel should get these stains out or replace the carpet - in room 333.
You do hear the planes taking off and landing - the last one was close to 1 am and at 6 am the first one of the day was taking off. If you’re a light sleeper like I am, you won’t have your best night of sleep.
The bathroom needs a bath mat.
The staff there was so kind and helpful
The shower was a little bit dirty not gunna lie on the top where you place the soap and there was no body wash in the shower. Also some of the other guest were sorta rid in the way they stare but totally not the property’s fault.
Large parking spaces for bigger vehicles. Room was very comfortable
I have stayed at many Home2Suites, we are Diamond members and this establishment does not come anywhere near the Hilton standards we have come to expect. The facility seems to be held together by a shoestring and a prayer. The first floor smells strongly of chlorine from the pool, which did not appear to get cleaned. There was always debris floating or in the pool to the point even our 11 year old was grossed out. The bathroom in the pool area needed the wall repaired due to a big hole in the drywall and did not appear clean.
The customer service is practically non existent, the hotel itself is tired, the rooms were not clean, the breakfast in the morning was very sparse and unappetizing.
I found it interesting that there is a sign on the front door telling people to be careful in the parking lot due to the weather conditions but the kept their van parked at the first space next to the drive up and front door. A spot that would be very helpful for customers since it is right next to an overhang, in addition they had a cone in the second spot also preventing its use also . This was consistent for our entire stay, and when the van was gone, they had both spots blocked with a cone. They could park the van in a spot away from the door to allow customers the convenience of getting into the building.
The employees that we did see did not appear happy. Most times when you walk in to the hotel even just returning, they would at least greet you saying Hi, Welcome Back or something to acknowledge your presence. There is none of that here. They were not welcoming, did not speak and seemed to be annoyed by people's presence. One man would come in and out of the office behind the desk and just glare, appearing to keep watch over guests and the front desk clerk. The van driver appeared to be irritated constantly and slammed a laundry cart around hauling the pool towels going through the lobby. The breakfast lady was annoyed when the yogurt machine was not working and we asked for assistance. The most pleasant and helpful employee was a front desk clerk that said she had started approximately a month earlier.
It started at check in, I checked in on the app, but when I got there they had changed the room and type of room I was assigned. I explained that I needed the room with two beds and after she "forced it through" the cost was $10 more than it had been when I originally made the reservations. I showed her the app and advised her of the rate that I should be charged but she ignored that and said " I will give you two waters to make up for the rate change".
The room was not very clean, it did not look like the floors had been cleaned, the bathroom (in my pics) had spots and dirt, obviously not mopped. The bathroom sink was missing a drain stop. There was hair under the desk on the floor in the room. We received housekeeping one day in our five night stay, and we had left a dirty plate, glass and silver ware in the sink. For some reason they took it out of the sink and stacked it on our counter,,,still dirty. The sink was not cleaned out so, that was not the reason! Some of the silverware in the drawer was dirty and needed to be washed before we used it for the first time. There were four plates and glasses but all rooms we have stayed in before have racks in the cupboard for the plates.and one on the other side for the coffee cups, this had neither. It almost seemed like they stopped putting the room together in midstep. The sheets did not fit the bed correctly and the thin bottom sheet popped off at the corners every night. One pillow smelled like smoke, but when we asked for a new pillow twice, they never seemed to be able to understand the word pillow. We took one out of the extra supplies in the cabinet that are there for the pull out couch finally. The bathroom door in the room is a barn door style, but it did not latch properly and there was not a handle per se. It was difficult to open especially for our 11 year old.
The computers in the lobby did not work. There were two available but one of the clerks stated they had not worked for "over a month".
The fitness room was adequate and we were able to use that equipment. There were laundry facilities that were $5 a load, though we did not use them.
The lobby area is dimly lit, and not welcoming. There is no decaffeinated coffee available, and the coffee pot is stashed back in a dark corner, basically discouraging its use. The hot water is put away after breakfast so you can not make tea. They turn the light off after breakfast over the alcove for the coffee as if to say its not available, but sometimes there was regular coffee. The "napkins" that were used were actually the folded paper towels that you get out of the bathroom. These were put out at breakfast also as the napkins to use.
The TV screens are not turned on to a TV channel in the public area even during breakfast. They are used to advertise for Hilton. It is ironic that one of the screens talks about the unlimited breakfast sandwich combinations that you can make....but in reality we only saw every morning, one egg and one meat put out. In addition the cheese that you are expected to use is shredded cheese that is dumped out on the tray. The temperature was barely warm of the food and cheese was sitting next to a hot plate on the counter, though it was unclear what that hot plate should be used for. This breakfast was by far the poorest quality that I have ever seen on a Hilton property. When the milk was empty and we asked for some, the person working the breakfast did not appear to understand the word milk and it took quite a bit to get that refilled using hand gestures.
The overall pervasive feeling was a dark, unwelcoming and slightly unsafe feeling. We did not get a comfortable feeling while in the hotel and only used it as a home base while visiting Maine. If we return to Maine, we would NEVER stay at this facility. I suspect its proximity to the airport is what helps keep them in business.
