Central, comfortable, quiet and welcoming.
Pros:

Great central location, right in the heart of town. The room was very clean, comfortable and a good size. Even though it’s above a pub, I couldn’t hear any noise from downstairs at all, which was a nice surprise. The staff were genuinely lovely and very welcoming. Having food and drinks available downstairs was also really convenient, and being dog-friendly was a big plus.

Cons:

Nothing major. The only small issue was the rear entrance door, which was quite difficult to lock with the key provided. I eventually worked out how to do it, but it might be worth checking or adjusting the lock.

Disappointed
Pros:

Pleasant staff, free parking.

Cons:

To be fair, this is an old property, so to some extent the owners are working with what they've got. However, that really doesn't excuse the lack of a mirror, a headboard, any kind of seat or a working surface of any size in the bedroom. Somewhat bizarrely, my bedroom (room 6) is a designated fire route with a fire exit in it. The bedroom door yale lock had the locking button removed, so it was effectively impossible to secure the door, other than on the yale. In nearly fifty years if staying in hotels, this was definitely a first!
I had stayed in a very similarly priced hotel elsewhere in Wales the previous evening and the difference in quality, fixtures and fittings and comfort were like chalk and cheese. I selected both hotels through booking.com and both had similar ratings, but I am really struggling to comprehend how that is accurate.
Re-reading reviews on The White Lion, a lot of customers praise the pub and the food elements of the property. I didn't use either, so to be clear (and fair) my review is based solely on my experience of this particular room.
Sadly, on that basis I could not recommend this hotel and definitely would not use again.

Nice clean quiet room in the centre of Machynlleth.
Pros:
