I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Novotel South Bank.

I have stayed at this hotel many times before and have always chosen it because I trusted the service. Unfortunately, this experience was completely different.

I made a last-minute reservation through Booking.com because I urgently needed a room. The room cost almost $400 for essentially an overnight stay (check-in at 11:00 PM and check-out at 10:00 AM), so I expected the check-in process to be smooth.

When I arrived, I was told that I had to pay the full amount again, even though I had already paid through Booking.com. The staff explained that Booking.com had not yet processed the payment to the hotel, but that is not the customer’s responsibility. I had already paid from my side, and I simply did not have enough money to pay a second time while waiting for the systems to catch up.

I was left waiting for around 15 minutes while the issue was being sorted out. During that time, my baby was crying in the car, and my mother was waiting with him. It was an incredibly stressful and frustrating situation.

I do want to say that the staff themselves were polite, helpful, and genuinely tried to assist me. This is not a criticism of the employees. It seems to be a communication or payment processing issue between the hotel and Booking.com, but regardless of where the fault lies, guests should not be put in this position after they have already paid for their booking.

For a hotel charging premium prices, I expected a much smoother check-in experience and a better system for handling situations like this. Sadly, this experience has made me reconsider staying at Novotel South Bank again.

A seamless experience as a business traveler.
Pros:

Excellent location for access to the Exhibition Centre. They were able to accommodate early check in which was amazing and made my day run a lot smoother. Breakfast was lovely - a good range of options. I don't have any faults.
