Confused Reception
Pros:

We had travelled to Samut Prakan Province to visit the Ancient City and the Erawan Museum, and had booked Relax Villa Hotel on-line.

When we drove into the hotel it was not immediately clear where reception was. But a maid saw us and directed us to the back of the hotel, where she waved us into the car port of a stand-alone chalet. She unlocked the door, waved us inside and proceeded to draw a large curtain across the carport. She then put her hand out and asked for money.

It was then that the penny clicked. This hotel, in part, has "short-time" rooms and she had assumed that we had just driven in off the street looking for a room for a couple of hours.

I produced our on-line booking, and she had the grace to look a little embarrassed.

She then showed us where reception was and we duly booked in and were shown to our room - much larger and better furnished that the "short-time" room the maid has shown us.

That aside, I heartily recommend Relax Villa as excellent value for money. The "normal" rooms are large, spotlessly clean, with good beds and bed linen, a huge shower-cum-bath, and decorated in Art Nouveau style.

All the rooms are stand-alone chalets painted a variety of pastel colours.

Our one-night stay cost THB1,080, which included a hearty breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausages, ham, toast and coffee delivered to our room.

PS: Relax Villa is also set well back from roads, so it is quite and there is no traffic noise.
