Most unfriendly service we've ever got in a thai restaurant.
Been in the country, tavellist around for 3 months and have always had very nice experience on restaurants.
Properly dressed, speaking a little bit thai, being friendly, respectful and smiling is a perfect receipie for good service everywhere.
Except here.
They never even look at you when presenting the meny, taking your order or serve you.
They act almost hostile.
The garden and the beach is very very beautiful, but we didn't like the restaurant. Although it is very clean, the atmosphere is not nice and friendly and the food tastes quite bouring. The service is ok.
NICE BEACH - CONVENIENT HOTEL - POOR RESTAURANT - UNPLEASANT AND RUDE MANAGER.
Being situated at the extreme southern end of the Island, the Ao Phrao Beach and Sunshine Hotel are a long way from the most activities, shops and restaurants. Renting a motorbike is an essential. (normal rate 200 to 250THB per day)
Facing the west, the beach has superb sunsets and a peaceful sea. Unfortunately, many shade tress were recently destroyed by a tornado and there is very little shade available in the afternoon.
The sea is shallow, so for swimming it is necessary to venture quite a long way, especially at low tide.
The Hotel is well maintained and clean. The bedrooms have average size and spartan furniture including a safe. The mattresses are firm or almost hard.
The restaurant offers traditional Thai food in the quality of the "fast-foods" or "self-service" restaurants, but somewhat over-priced.
The American breakfast included in the room price is rather on the low level.
Although he crippling item is the Manager !. Impolite and apparently emotionally disturbed, who will not listen to any complaints and leaves you with insults including pointing his finger at us in an obscene manner.
BELLE PLAGE - HOTEL CORRECT - RESTAURANT MEDIOCRE - DIRECTEUR GROSSIER, TRES ANTHIPATHIQUE.
I picked Sunshine for the final few days of my trip. As the furthest resort on the southermost beach in Koh Kood, I was looking forward to a beautiful place in a quiet, isolated location and a chance to really relax before heading home.
First the good: the bungalows are well built and sit in nicely maintained grounds, the seaview ones situated on the edge of the garden behind the beach and the others build on a small rising slope with a few steps to negotiate. The restaurant is nice and spacious with good views and there are kayaks for guests to use.
However, the good is balanced out by a mixture of TERRIBLE food (the worst we had in Koh Kood which is a big problem when you have so few other options) with breakfast especially disappointing, a terrible massage (also the worst I have ever had in Thailand and I love their hard massages) and the not very friendly attitude of the main manager who acted like the guests were a nuisance he had to put up with. I am sure some of the Russians and other tourists are difficult, but he is still in the customer service business and needs to make more of an effort in this Land of Smiles.
The beach itself is one of the longest and, at first glance, most beautiful on the island. But beware that this bay is where Koh Kood's fishing boats drop anchor which results in (a) quite a lot of rubbish coming ashore and (b) as soon as night falls, the squid boats head out and switch on their extremely bright lights so it is not a place for quiet stargazing.
Having visited Neverland Resort one beach to the west on a scooter one day, I think that would have been a better choice for a relaxing get-away-from-it-all few days on the beach.
The bungalow was very nice, amazing garden and very well-kept common areas, the beach is fantastic, the staff is very polite and helpful and they offer very good services to move around the island; shame for the food, which is really not that great and the restaurant has high prices, considering the quite poor level.
Beautiful site for a resort. Right on the beach, restaurant is nice and overlooks the beach. You can have a massage, there are sunloungers and it is safe for children to swim in clear , warm water. A great shame about the rubbish all along the shoreline, you have to watch where you walk ! No one cares about it. ☹️
Schöne Anlage mi Palmengarten an einem sehr schönen Strand. Allerdings sind die Betten sehr hart und mit Warmwasserversorgung gab es auch Probleme. Die Massagen am Strand waren sehr entspannend.
Visited this resort with two kids of 9 and 7 years old. It’s a long drive from the harbor and when you drive down on the road to the resort we got a little bit worried. There was trash and old buildings but when you enter the resort you stepped in to paradise. Nice staff, coral at left side of the beach ( 50 mtr in sea ), beautifull beach. Only comment: beds in cabins are very hard en could be softer.
On arrival we found out that our seaview rooms by mistake was rented out...... no worries, we are on holliday so we took garden view
After 2 days one of our friends left for person reasons and sins we took it for 4 days we could not get our money back..... no worrie, we are on holliday so we left it.
Now sins we had an extra room we might as well move to that room, our bed was full of ants and the other did not, this was impossible sins they already rented it out..... no worries we are on holliday so we left it and said nothing.
Last night we talked about going to cambodia insted of up in Thailand....
We already rented a car and asked the hotel if they could cancle it for us....
The cardriver wanted 3000 baht for cancle and we asked them if they could get this price down sins it was allot of money for doing nothing....
The manager then came and told us he would cancle the boat and everything if we did not pay.....
I was so suppriced and said WHAT!
Then he wanted to fight me sins I was a bad customer and got the story about all the other bad customer he had.
Until then we had been talking about the amazing nature and the perfect staff but must say that after this treatment from a hotel manager that I saw for the first time.
I feel really bad for the staff there with a manager who in that degree hate his job.
I will never find my way back there and do not hope others meet the manager sins he hate his job and people.
Reviewing this place was really hard for me. On one hand, a very nice resort (albeit 3 stars level) situated on a fantastic beach with new bungalows and a lush green grass.
On the other hand, the lazy and careless attitude. The staff is very nice and smiley, what when it comes to actually provide service or helping - you could pluck your hair out before you’ll get the proper attention. When we arrived and after we checked in we tried to get some information regarding the return ferry. Since it was jus before Thai New Year we knew we better take care of it in advance, but the receptionist said he doesn’t knows anything about the availability (pssst... it’s a phone call away, buddy!). We wanted to rent a scooter, but he told us that they only rent until 5pm (you can use it whenever you want, but the actual renting is until that time) which practically rendered us grounded to the premises. We decided to walk out to get some food, but since it was dark we didn’t know the way (there’s a little portion of jungle to go through and a forking dirt road between the main toad and the resort). After we failed to understand his directions (his English was basic), we asked him if he could show us the way by walking with us a bit but he just repeated himself. He yawned at us while doing that, the hard working fella!
One evening after coming back from the beach, our shower didn’t have hot water. I had to make the trip to the reception twice to ask for help. At the second time the receptionist said that she’s sorry but her husband is having dinner at the moment so we should wait.
We had another incident where we waited for a dish we ordered for half an hour, and eventuality it didn’t come at all. That was after we asked about it two times.
Normally I’d be glad to give a place like that 5 stars just with a bit more attention and care. Too many f***ups though, and a very lazy attitude to running a beach resort.
What else?
Prices are fair I guess, and don’t expect much of the basic breakfast. Rent a scooter outside as it’s significantly cheaper, as well as eating at the roadside restaurants (as opposed to the restaurant at the resort). You’ll have some territorial dispute with ants over your bed, but hey, you’re practically living in nature. Beware of jellyfish in the water. You won’t die from it, but it stings as hell for about 30 minutes.
Pros:
- Quiet, not crowded
- Pristine white sand beach with clear, calm water
- Air conditioned, clean rooms very close to the beach (~ 15 steps)
- Towel service, cleaning, and new bedding everyday
- Beach chairs, hammocks, and kayaks available & free
- Good snorkeling nearby
- Kind and helpful staff
- Free taxi pick up
Cons:
- Bit of a hassle to get to (flight, taxi, boat, taxi) but worth it if you want a secluded vacation
- Food was just okay, but you can eat at the other nearby resorts down the beach with better food
- Shower in the bathroom didn't drain well so our bathroom often had a bit of standing water in it (there were 4 of us taking showers though)
We stayed at The Sunshine Resort only a couple of nights and though it is a little bit of a trek to get there, it is so very very worth it. A little slice of paradise just for you; lovely little villas with a terrace and a hammock (for some), a oh so sandy beach, palm trees, blue water and quiet. The restaurant was excellent and serves food throughout the day. This is almost a honeymoon destination. Please bear in mind it is not easily accessible (you’ll need a scooter to go around the island) and the restaurant stops serving at 2100. Very much a couple or young family destination rather than young backpackers but if paradise is what you’re looking for, then this must be the place.
This is perhaps my favourite beach in all of South East Asia. The sand is white, the water is crystal clear, and no matter the tide you can swim in it all day long. The beach is on the south west coast, so you have full sunshine from the morning until you watch it set at night. There are plenty of trees that edge the beach that provide shade for when you need a break from the sun. The location is more secluded so if you're the type of person that likes to go into town or do things off the property you'll need a motorbike or to hire a taxi. Staff are helpful and friendly. The room, while minimalist, was clean and very comfortable. The air conditioning was perfect and kept the room cool when needed. There is no tv or hair dryer, but I didn't come to Thailand for those things. The bathroom is large, although it got an almost chemical smell during the day/ evening that had the door to it kept firmly shut.
Pros:
-Dream of a beach; clean, pristine, and decent snorkelling along the left side of it
-Quiet, serene oasis in a calm bay
- Great massages at reasonable prices
- Comfortable beds, clean rooms
- Beach towel service each day
- Free taxi pick-up when you come to the island if you call them to say the time you arrive
Cons:
- Breakfast, while included with the price, was sad. It is buffet style with minimal selection. If you wanted western food, you are limited to omelettes one day and then fried eggs the next, white toast, chicken "sausages" (they seem more like hotdogs) watermelon, and pineapple. To toast your bread there's a single toaster and a flat grill, however, neither one actually toasts your bread properly, so be prepared for just slightly warm bread as opposed to actual toast. The food at the restaurant for the rest of the day is fine if you're alright with Thai options.
- Beach chairs, while plenty, there were not enough for all the guests, which lead to a rather big rush before breakfast to lay your towels down and "stake a claim"
- The bungalows are a bit further back, so while you can still see the ocean, they aren't on the beach that way I-Lay's bungalows are next door. That being said Sunshine resort has the better beach and more beach chairs, so it's a trade-off.
- No hand soap to wash your hands in your bathroom. We resorted to using the complementary shampoo.
In ko Kut a lot of resort are secluded because of the lack of good roads
Sunshine resort can be reached easily by scooter so it is a good point
Bungalows are spacy , clean and comfortable
Beach is ok
Staff is friendly , food is good at reasonnable prices
So a good choice at Ko Kut
I am very pleased with this resort. It has a a lovely garden, the beach is spotless, and the rooms are very comfortable. I must say that this is one of the very rare places where the pictures of the rooms were not as good as the reality. The restaurant is O.K. The breakfast isn't the best, but it is included in the price of the room. The staff were very helpful the entire time we were there.
" I was stayed 24 - 27 April 17 with my friend we had a great time during our staying, good location where is the private beach , the food is good taste , friendliness staff , our house is see view , but we are unlucky that allergic to some kind of insect ... however totally we are really happy and enjoyed on this holidays
We stayed 4 nights at Sunshine and it was our second time, we really fall in love with this beach. This time we stayed at familiar suite, see view, the room is basic and not very clean, they come clean every day but it's a joke, they just replace toilet paper and waters, sometimes towels... The food is regular, although you can choose one or two choices that are good, breakfast is poor only Thai options some fruit (watermelon and pineapple everyday) and eggs. But there are options, you can eat much better on i-Lay (next to Sunshine). The positives are the beach, the calm, the free canoes, and almost nobody at the beach, and the transparent water, this time we were a little sad about the trash from the boats that comes to the beach every day, the staff from the resorts clean the beach every morning and sometimes afternoon but something should be made with the Fisherman's education. Good wi-fi.
Picture perfect beach, sooo beautiful!
Nice staff, not so good in english but very helpful.
Clean room, good shower, cabins are on the beach. Beautiful garden with hammocks on the beach.
We loved it here!
Far away for ferry, almost at the end of island - if you like quiet places this one will be perfect:)
Beautiful beach - on the left side few descent snorkelling spots.
Bungalows quite good, daily cleaned, air con worked well. Some ants inside (well its tropical island so ok:)) - no mosquito's.
Breakfast ok but not awesome.
In my opinion a bit overpriced.
