Hotel East View

Very inconvenient location. Can't be accessed by automobile or even tutu. Have to cross dirt-filled narrow lanes to get to the hotel on foot

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Refrigerator and toilet did not work. Bed like a board. Must arrive by boat and carry bags up 100 stairs with no help. No towels. Multiple requests to housekeeping for service. Credit card machine does not work. Reception completely unhelpful. Poor WiFi



This hotel costs nearly as much as the 5 star hotels in Delhi. If the booking websites had a rating of "negative 5 stars," that is what I would give the Hotel East View. Our stay there in December, 2018, was a complete and total nightmare. The poor quality of the stay nearly ruining our trip to Varanassi. Don't let it ruin yours! The treatment by the people at the Hotel East View was abysmal. It was incredibly distasteful.

When we arrived in Varanassi, the Uber driver had no idea where the Hotel East View was. When we called, we were told we would have to take a boat to the hotel. This had NEVER been mentioned on the booking websites.
We had to carry our bags down a beach to board a row boat. We were rowed up the Ganges River to the landing for the hotel.

When we got to the landing, there was no one there to help carry the bags up 100 stairs. The area smelled of urine as locals were urinating at the landing even though there was a restroom 50 yards from them. The odor of urine permeated our arrival at the Hotel East View. We should have taken that as an omen of what was to follow!

First the good
it is right on the water which makes walking the ghats easy and convenient
Now the bad
it is really not more than a 2 star hotel- they try hard but sheeta are thread bare and toilet has poor wax seal so bathroom smells like sewer-- AC is controlled and often shut off by front desk
The worst is the constant up sell--selling starts at check in and never lets up-- DO NOT pay for their car service or boat service to the ceremony- car is at least 2x the going rate and we had to walk atvleast 20 min as cars dont fit down the narrow streets (get pre pay taxi at airport) and boat is at least 3x the rate and got us there late sobwe could not see the ceremony-- complaints fall on deaf ears and no offer for refund
Location is important but no matter what room is offered i would not pay much to stay here

We had a view overlooking the Ganges River. The room was very spacious and comfortable, but the it was the food in the restaurant upstairs that was a pleasant surprise. Great quality and flavors, and met some nice people who were also staying there. Air Conditioning worked great. The staff were also very accommodating. It is a bit of a walk through the alley ways to get in and out, and on the last day, two of their staff members carried our luggage through the alleys, out to the street, and then stayed with us until our taxi arrived, even calling the taxi to make sure everything was good as they were just a little late. They were really nice guys and the service orientation of all their staff is genuine.
