Fantastic standard of room, delicious breakfast and the staff were excellent.
Guests in the room next to us watched their tv very loudly through the night which disturbed our sleep. We did not raise this with staff because we didn't want it to distract us from our excellent stay by getting into a discussion about it but they gave the impression that they would have handled any potential issues well if we had done.
Property was lovely. Clean and well maintained. However the room heating is terrible. There is no way for guests to control the temp. The room heating was 27 and we were told to open the front door to cool the room down ….. at 2am in the morning.
Not being able to control the room temperature (lower the room temp)
The rooms were spacious and lovely breakfast was lovely
It was a lovely property in the middle of nowhere and suited our needs adequately, we were using it as a night stop off.
Breakfast was really nice
It was really weird. We arrived at 18:00 on Sunday but the kitchen had already closed so we were not able to eat after a long drive.
When we went into our room there was no electricity, we had to wait for it to be turned on, then in the morning at about 8:30 it was turned off again. Really strange
Outstanding place! The quality of the fittings and furnishing was second to none. The room space, the comfort and the amazing bathroom added to this amazing stay.
Restaurant and pub were great. The staff were lovely. To top it all, the location was idyllic.
Just a couple of details - in the main shower, we couldn’t manage to get the shower head off the hose working.
The water tap fitted on the bathroom wash basin was so low down that it wasn’t convenient to wash our hands.
From the moment we arrived we were amazed by everything. The room was beyond our expectations, sometimes the pictures when booking don't quite match the reality but the room was exactly as shown if not better. We had evening meals both nights we were there & we could not fault the quality or quantity in any way. The breakfasts were just as good with a great choice. The staff excelled in both service & being welcoming & friendly.
I can honestly say there was nothing we didn't like about the whole visit.
The staff were mostly nice, the menu was very limiting. If we had stayed longer than 3 days, we would have run out of choice unless we wanted an expensive steak or vegan options. The orangery was a nice space to eat in and the location was good if you wanted to visit Beamish Museum but a little out of the way to get to Durham and Sunderland, about a 25 minute trip to the park and ride to Dueham. It was easy to find and our room was suitable for someone with a walker or a push wheelchair as there was a ramp going to the door. The bathroom had a walk—in shower with a very small lip to negotiate. The bathroom was not big enough to take the wheelchair or the walker in. It seemed a popular place for families and there were nice grounds to walk in plus the Aston Martin showroom and the Caterham showroom.
We had travelled for 6 hours from Ashford to get to The Black Horse in Stanley. When we arrived we saw a cheerful lady who showed us to our room. We were hoping to have a rest before our dinner. My husband chose to sit on the bed and put his feet up, I wanted to sit in a chair and read. The only chairs available were a small, low chaise with no back and a hard wooden chair. Not exactly comfortable. The only place to sit in the pub/restaurant was at a table laid for a meal so if you want somewhere with a lounge, this doesn’t have it. I enquired of two members of staff for the best park and ride into Durham and neither would tell me. They both said ‘I’m not local and I don’t use it’! No help there then and no point in asking any other touristy questions. The room was not clean. There was a black mark on the duvet cover which I tried to wipe off. There was dust on all the skirting boards, there was a myriad of fluff and dust by the side of the bed on both sides and behind the chaise and chair when we arrived and it was still there when we left. The small shower head in the bathroom was full of what looked like black mould and the vent-axia was full of cobwebs. I couldn’t wait to leave, in fact we didn’t have breakfast and just left on our last day booking out to a member of staff in the restaurant. I would have left sooner but we were travelling in to Scotland and I needed the rest before my long drive. I didn’t complain at the time, not sure why not. The Fire Notice next to the door didn’t have the location of our rvp on it.
A stunning looking room
Noisy, air con and other electronic noises all night switch gear clicking on and off and loud buzzing. Disturbed sleep. No soundproofing, could hear every word from guests below. Lots of light bleed. Green fire exit light illuminated entire room. No door between bed and toilet, only mirror is in location where no sockets for hairdryer, 1 coffee pod but 12 milks. Unable to get hands under tap in sink. The room looks stunning but I bet the person who created it has not slept there.
Accimmodation, facilities, staff and location excellent. Staff very friendly and attentive. Paul the estates maintenance manager offered to take our photo under the arch near the marquee and was chatting away. The receptionist showed us to our room, very friendly too. The cleaners, the bar staff and serving staff all very polite and helpful
Only minor point, the bath in Thyme loses water i dont think the plug fits so the water drains out when in it, a simple fix but would be beneficial to be able to enjoy a bath after a long busy day.
Room was spotless
Staff friendly
Beautiful location
Breakfast lovely
Room was very warm overnight and couldn't adjust temperature
Beautiful situation, lovely room, excellent food
very good breakfast and staff. complaint was well addressed
the room smelt of cigarette smoke, more so in the bathroom
Lovely bar area, breakfast was excellent, as were staff. If anyone scores down on location then they simply didn't do their research. It's remote but that was fine for us as we were attending a wedding just up the road.
Room was OK, however bed was very uncomfortable (some other people my like it of course). Blind on front door (which leads outside as we were in one of the outside rooms) was not wide enough and let in too much light once the sun was up. And this one is out of the control of the hotel, but neighbors arguing until 3 in the morning didn't lend itself to getting a good nights sleep.
The bedroom was superb
Great staff, very friendly and delucious food
Wish I was staying longer! I will definitely be back.
Nothing to not like!
The food was excellent and freshly cooked. The rooms were clean and the decoration was lovely. The bathroom was exceptional; I have never seen a bath like it!
I can honestly say that there was nothing we didn't like!
