Stay at Black Horse
Pros:

Warm welcome on arrival and shown to our room personally. Plenty of drink sachets in room and biscuits too. Staff friendly and checked meals okay in reataurant. Good quality accommodation in a beautiful location.

Cons:

Ordered an evening meal but had to ask after 45 minutes. Did get an apology that the till roll had run out and our order hadnt got to the kitchen. Our meals were prepared and served although the fish batter was very over done but we were so hungry we did eat it. It was recognised as when we went to pay our meals were taken off the bill. I know mistakes happen and we werent charged due to the error but maybe there could be a way of the waiting staff checking the tables they have taken an order for, have received their food.

Beautiful location let down my poor food
Pros:

Beautiful location and buildings all very pretty

Cons:

Menu very minimal and breakfast was dreadful, eggs had stood so long the yolk was hard and a rubber texture, bacon inedible, black pudding very over cooked.

An absolute gem of a two night break that was all and more than the highly complimentary reviews provided on Booking.com
Pros:

The picturesque rural location of the Inn and it’s delightful detached Red Row accommodation , the Black Horse’s back story linked in to the song about Durham MP Bobby Shafto, the colourful lavender rows providing an evening scent. The choice on the menu catered for all tastes and the breakfasts were first class …all in all a great stay close to Beamish Museum.

Cons:

Can’t fault it.
