Hotel looks very grand ! Food here is amazing , cooked to perfection, hotel room we were in is looking a bit tired especially the shower but very comfortable
We did not stay in the hotel so can’t comment on the accommodation. We were there for our son and daughter in law’s wedding. The food was delicious and very well prepared, we had a family meal and then a buffet later everyone commented on how good the buffet was. The staff are excellent and extremely helpful . We came up for breakfast in the morning and it was lovely and our waitress was very friendly and efficient.
Room had mold on the painted walls in bathroom and sleeping area. Birds perched outside windows created lots of noise in early morning hours.
Staff was helpful when toilet failed to function.
It was simply lovely
Enjoyed our overnight stay. Staff very friendly and food lovely
Very helpful & friendly staff. Breakfast was great!
It was accommodating and worked well for our needs in Stirling.
This is a very nice place to stay away from it all. Our room was spacious. The service was pretty slow at the restaurant, but I would stay here again. Property was very pretty.
For a hotel which aims to provide a 5* experience (as per their website), they need to drastically improve their aim!
Recently stayed for one night in what was described as a "Deluxe double" room. We arrived around 4.30, and were booked in efficiently, then personally taken to our room by the duty manager Leane. We unpacked our bag, quickly got changed and left to have an evening in Stirling. On our return and having more time to look closely at the room, we discovered no soap in either of the soap dispensers, a cracked window, window frames with flaking paint and black mould, windows were dirty. There was black mould on the back of all curtains. The theme continued in the bathroom. One window was screwed shut because the catch was missing, the roller blind didn't work, the toilet flush was loose and the cistern cracked. The wash basin was cracked, the chain on the plug was broken off. The plastic bath panel was cracked on the edge. There was black mould on the baseboard of the shower.
Back in the bedroom, the old fashioned wooden floor standing clothes hanger was unusable as the top was broken, there was a sizeable chunk of wood missing on the bedframe, and when we turned on the centre light the amount of dust and cobwebs on the fitting was shocking. One of the bulbs wasn't working.
The duty manager Leane was called, and she agreed that the room fell well below the standard, but the hotel was full so she couldn't move us. She said the owner was in the hotel and she would get him to come and see the room....he didn't bother. It was too late to start looking for another hotel, so we had to stay the night. The next morning, the new duty manager (Maggie) advised us the bill had been reduced from £99 to £49. After the delicious breakfast, we advised her we were not willing to pay for the room, but would pay £25 for the breakfast. She rang the owner who just said "OK, that's fine"
This hotel needs a disgusting amount of money spent on it to bring it up to an acceptable standard, and its clear the current owner has no interest in doing it. I feel for his staff, who are doing a great job and deserve a medal in my opinion......he's lucky to have them.
This was an incredible find, great historic hotel room beautiful lawn and beer garden! Would 100% recommend
The property is very run down. Our bed was so lumpy that my husband had to use pillows and make a bed on the floor.
We felt we were visiting Downton Abbey! The property could use some improvements, but the atmosphere far surpassed the little issues.
This is a very nice little hotel. My room and bathroom were very spacious and the bed was comfortable. The room felt more like a room in a home rather than a hotel room. I had supper in the restaurant (braised beef) and it was delicious. Breakfast was made to order and was also good. They have a beautiful grounds…like a small park. Google Maps took me to the wrong street; just follow the sign. I would definitely go back.
The Dunmar Hotel is a charming hotel with plenty of character. If you are looking for a weekend away from the "multi chain" hotel groups where you're basically just a "number" then go to the Dunmar. Yes there are areas which are needing some attention, but this is part of the charm of a beautiful old building. My wife and I stayed two nights and we had two incredible peaceful nights sleep. The room was spotless, yes there were marks on walls etc but you'll find that in any hotel. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty, we didn't have evening meals as we were visiting friends, but on both evening's the restaurant/ bar area looked very busy. The staff were lovely and helpful and we will definitely make a return visit the next time we're in the area. These beautiful "old hotels" were part of the fabric of generations and are still worth a visit.
A lovely old Scottish building, full of charm and character which is sadly lacking in modern multi-chain hotel groups. The staff were all absolutely lovely - very friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable, equipped with tea/coffee facilities, and a well-stocked bathroom. We were eating out in the evenings, but the breakfasts were wholesome, well-cooked, and with excellent choices. This was our second visit, and we will certainly be back any time we wish to stay in this area. Recommended.
Breakfast excellent. Checkin really easy.
Hotel needs lots of tlc. Lovely setting.
Friendly staff
The building requires some upgrading. However, the staff were friendly, the accommodation was clean and the breakfast was well prepared. We did not have dinner.
I would particularly like to point out an incident about the honesty and integrity of the housekeeping staff. My wife took off a small diamond ring she was wearing before going to bed. In the morning she forgot she had done this and only remembered when we returned home, so she telephoned the hotel and was advised the housekeeper had found the ring and it was deposited in the safe awaiting collection. We do not live far from the hotel so we returned immediately and it has been returned to my wife. I would like to commend the concern and honesty of the staff involved.
To be quite honest, this house needs a full refurbishment . It's dated the room I stayed in Room 1. The bathroom ceiling is ready to fall down, the shower leaks the floor is lifting, the sink has a large crack in the bowl, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling
Bedroom large cracks on the walls window glass broken
you can not even turn in the bed it sweaks , and the lock on door does not snib, the mattress is like a stone floor really hard
Dinning room is also dated the chandler's above the tables were you eat are full of dust and cobwebs, the whole house is just very dark . The girl on reception/bar was very pleased . Don't think I will be staying here again
Our stay was relaxing and pleasant. The roaring log fire was very comforting and the staff and food were first class. What a bargain stay. Well worth a visit.
The staff was fantastic. So friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and had a number of options. I just mentioned that it had been chilly during the night and they brought us an additional heater.
