Professional property host/manager
I stayed at this property from July 10 to 11 in Room 103 and 104. While we were out, we left our bags in the room, trusting that our belongings would be safe. I had $1300 with me at the time, but when I checked on July 12, almost all the money was gone - only nine $1 bills remained, and I didn't even have any $1 bills with me originally.
This has been a shocking and upsetting experience. It raises serious concerns about the safety and security at this place. I expected better from a professional accommodation. I urge the management to take this seriously and improve their internal handling and security measures.
Would not recommend this place to anyone until these issues are addressed
I had good experiences here. The room was comfortable, the air conditioning worked great, and the view of the waves was lovely. Most of all, Tirone and Suda were very kind and helpful to me. In fact, all the employees were quite genuinely friendly, which is unexpected in an area with frequent turnover.
This is an amazing budget place, right on the beach! We had the family bungalow and were only a few steps from the water. It reminded us of the good old Thai beach bungalows, nothing fancy but you get exactly what you pay for!
We had two double beds, a seating area, a shelf for clothes and a desk. A big terrace with chairs, a table, a drying rack and an amazing view of the sea. From our beds we could even watch the sunrise! Bathroom was quite simple, and had plenty of places where bugs could enter, so we kept the door closed and used plenty of mosquito spray. We had air condition, fan and mosquito nets.
The owner was really nice, and although they have no extra service, like beach towels, they did what they could to help us. When we requested forks they got them from their nearby restaurant (delivered on motorcycle!). The Golden beach hotel and restaurant has the same owners so we could use their beach loungers and cabanas, and we got a discount on our breakfast there.
The restaurant in front of the hotel is not related to the hotel, so the sun beds there are not to be used (you could probably use them for a fee). We did use their hammocks, chairs and swing, and their food was excellent.
We also had a double room (we are a family of five), it was quite simple but there was a double bed and a single bed, a table and on the porch there were chairs, a table and a drying rack. Bathroom was newer and quite nice.
Location is perfect, directly on the beach (few other places have bungalows with beach access). Several restaurants within one minute walk along the beach, and a few dive shops. Walking up the road, you find more restaurants and some shops.
Uppuveli is a quiet place, don’t expect much night life. The restaurant by the hotel closed around 11 pm. Fernando seems to be the only place staying open later than that.
The reception staff were lovely and so helpful when we had issues with WiFi; my husband having to send an important document. They went out of their way to help us out. On the whole, it was a positive experience and I would stay here again
I occupied the eco cabana. The cabana is tastefully constructed. They have air conditioning, fan and mosquito nets. It can accommodate 3 . The cabana is on the beach. The view is excellent day or night from your bed. You step into the beach as soon as you get out of the cabana. There are lots of stray and sick Dogs along the beach. Not sure they have Rabies. Have to chase them all the time. Above all its value for money.
we just discovered the beach huts when we went to look for a diving class and were lucky enough to get the last hut. it’s right on the beach, with view on the ocean. really perfect and an unforgettable experience. there’s no better waking up in the morning. good price also. breakfast was alright, not special.
What a great stay we had!
Right on the beach, very clean accommodation. Simple but what you need when you are spending most of the time on the beach? We took the thiny but super cozy caban with no AC, one fan and a matelas ( it is what it is) but it was a first sight love, so we decided to spend one more night there just 10minutes after our check in...we didn't regret.
Staff were extremely friendly and kind. The Margarita restaurant has very good chef, you can make sure he will meet and satisfied your requests (they cooked beautifully the fish we did catch earlier in the morning and helped to my boyfriend to arrange romantic dinner on the beach).
Receptionist named Suba, has always a good advice for you and stay very honnest in question of money and prices).
And the last but not the least the owner, very human and funny, we spend a little time with him and had a lot of fun.
Overall the stay at Alfresco was good. The cabanas are right on the beach on the best section of Uppuvelli. It is short walk to Fernandos and all the other great restaurants. We got a really good deal, which was half the price advertised online by just arriving without a booking then asking for a cheap price. The cheaper cabanas are really small and sweaty, so we moved into a larger cabana with AC on our last night. There were windows on both cabanas we were in, that did not lock properly so was a little concerned about security, though nothing happened to our stuff. The issue arose when we arranged a driver through the manager of the hotel. We agreed on a set price for two days driving. We were sure to confirm the arrangements for driver accommodation and meals. Basically there was a big problem when we got to the destination, the driver started demanding more and caused a big scene. He called the manager(cant be sure it was the same person) and put him on the phone to me, the manager started going back on the original deal we made. Anyway, the hotel is good but sadly they provided a bad driver.
We stayed here for 3 days. The resort is directly on the beach. The rooms are clean and nice. No Moskitos 😉. Good Bars and restaurants around in this area. The people are very nice. They will do their best to feel good. You can go by tuk tuk very easy to Tricomalee and Nilaveli Beach. Come here and enjoy🏖️
We stayed in an airconditioned chalet for a night and look forward to returning one day. The accommodation is very simple but adequate and clean and right on a lovely beach. More like a home stay than a hotel.
The food at the attached Margarita Beach Restaurant was superb.
Will return one day.
Amazing location right on the beach. Lots of great places to eat nearby. Juice bar breakfast is delicious. Cabana's are super cool. Great food at the restaurant. Yummy tiger prawns. Friendly and attentive staff. Wonderful stay.
This hotel is located right on the beach. Small individual beach huts. Fabulous. A range of meals are available in the bar/restaurant, though it is quite pricey. We just wanted drinks, which were fine. Decent service
We were welcomed by a friendly men who maked sure everything went Allright. Our bags are dropped off by a men. We booked a house on the beach. View is amazing. It's a basic house with a bed and a fan in it. When you want to use the bathroom there's a small bathroom on the outside. Overall we recommend this accommodation for sure because of the view and the experience off sleeping on a beach. Only thing if we need to pick a thing was that the matras was really small, we are both above 1.70meters so we were hanging out with our enkels.
Family of 5, we stayed in the Beach huts. Basic accommodation on a beautiful beach. Restaurant provides very tasty food. Great location. Lovely vibe in this area. Staff helpful. Poor WiFi. Would be even better if each hut was given a dustpan and brush to brush out the sand and new bed sheets every couple of days. However, would happily return.
We stayed in the ‘bungalows’ which are just set back off the beach as all the beach huts were booked out. We could see the sea from our verandas. The rooms and bathrooms are large with good comfy beds. The bathrooms were clean but only had cold water. The reception and cleaning staff were friendly and helpful. The place needs a bit of maintenance but other than that it’s good accommodation.
The restaurant however needs some changes implementing. The service was painfully slow and after 2 visits we’d had enough. They’re competing with other places along the beach which have good service and food; they’re missing out on an opportunity as the setting is great; right on the beach. The food when it eventually comes is good and it’s also hot. The evening menu is really quite limited though, with a big focus on fish and curry. Great if that’s what you want as it’s very good. But not enough choice. Staff in the restaurant were slow to take orders and serve; at times there just weren’t enough staff. It also didn’t have the same friendliness as other restaurants we visited. The other issue here are the crows (or ravens); they are an absolute pain. If you’re not careful they will swoop down and steal your food. It doesn’t make for a very relaxing mealtime! It doesn’t seem to be so much of an issue in other venues so I don’t know why it is here.
The reception staff were lovely and so helpful when we had issues with WiFi; my husband having to send an important document. They went out of their way to help us out.
On the whole it was a positive experience and I would stay here again.
