A classic turn of the century genuine Kiwi hotel, Great people running it and the whole place doesn't pretend to be what it isn't.
the room was very very hot there was no fan available , the room we had booked was already taken when we got there.
But basic but acceptable although town doesn’t have as much to offer as we were led to believe from guide books
Pretty good for $47, bedding is crisp & clean. The staff are warm & friendly. The location is great. I'd happily pay another $15+ if the cleaners got 3xcited about having a reallt good vacuum, ya know, just the hair & dust. But i keep coming back
Great central location, basic but clean - fantastic value for money. Unexpectedly good restaurant fare.
Old building, refurbished, tall ceilings, big beds. A/C insufficient. No wardrobe or shelves in the room. You are not allowed to have food in the room. Communal area is in a bar open to the public. WiFi barely works
Lovely people. Value for money. Good place to stop for the night.
The staff were lovely but overall property was poor. My bed leg fell off three times in the night . I couldn’t find how to get into the place after attending a family function as pub was closed. The showers and toilet were communal with everyone else. The breakfast was ok and the coffee could have been hotter.. it was pleasant enough, I just might have thought given the location and tourist traffic the property might have been a bit more updated on facilities. It’s tired.
Was a little noisy being on the roadside
But for the price it’s pretty cool.
We experienced a fire alarm early in the morning. It was cold and misty.
A warm cuppa tea would have helped ease the tension afterwards.
Spacious room with a comfortable bed in classic old hotel. Right above the bar area meant lots of noise on a Saturday night. The restaurant was certainly ok - the special was a fine roast lamb dinner. The internet router signal was too weak to connect in our room.
Pretty much what I expected, room was excellent. Only "trouble" we experienced was that our room was right over the bar and being a Saturday night they had a live band which started playing about 9.30pm, very loud but we made the most of it as the music was good and to our liking, so NOT complaining. Might be good to know for others planning on staying there.
Liked the hotel and friendly staff.
Only minor hassle was a dripping shower in the bathroom nearby. Staff very helpful.
Good but basic. Staff are friendly and its cheap and cheerful. Noisy at night though from trucks driving through.
Staff very friendly. Property outdated, dirty, and noisy. Shared bathroom with no counter space. Lounge area but no cooking if your own food allowed. Won’t be back.
This hotel is a really great price for budget travelers, but you also get budget accommodations. Overall we had good service and the food and beer downstairs were decent. Hotel should note that check-in is at the bar. It was not intuitive and therefore check-in was quite confusing and took longer than it should have. The room was clean but the bathroom (shared) is not big enough and was both dirty and without hot water for most of the time. We were told at check-in we could use the outer stairs but then were chastised by kitchen staff when we did so. Never did get wifi to work. This is literally in the middle of nowhere with very little else in town. The only reason I see to stay is if you've been camping for days and really just need a bed that's not on the ground.
Very noise on main road. Smoking table and chairs outside our only window. Room smelt of cigarettes. Day duvet smelt and loomed unclean but sheets and pillows were clean. Poorly lit..
Lovely grand old Hotel with awesome meals. The room was great except it didn’t have a chair. The staff were just so helpful and plesant.
Variety of meals available in bar for dinner. Thai, Chinese and normal, and that was on mid week.
Good place to stopover on a road trip. Comfortable and everything you need from a budget friendly hotel.
We stayed in an economy double room. Comfortable bed, TV, heater, vanity, cupboard in the room and clean shared toilets and warm showers down the hallway (sensor lights to find your way there).
The manager was friendly and helpful and was ok with us checking in late evening.
Great value!
