The bed was comfortable, which is our primary requirement of any hotel. But … no coffee or teamaking facilities in the room because “we like to force you to socialise” (according to the ‘welcome’ speech from the receptionist at check in). Err, no, I’m the customer and you shouldn’t be ‘forcing’ me to do any such thing; I want my first coffee of the day in my night clothes in my room, not in your cavernous industrial reception space. And when I get back to my room late afternoon after a hard day playing tourist I want to take off my shoes and relax with a cup of coffee or tea … oh dear, not at The Crossroads I can’t. All that apart, a very mixed bag: housekeeping poor (no show one day, absurdly late another, lots of things missed), valet parking excellent, hostesses at rooftop bar challenging rather than welcoming, breakfast service ok. Bottom line: not recommended.
We were celebrating my 60th birthday with a unique staycation and chose to stay at this hotel. Booking the room was easy, and they acknowledged that it was my birthday upon check in. We loved that they had valet parking available making it so much easier. The room was spacious - even had a little couch - and we loved that they left much of the original structure. The pressure in the shower was fantastic (we all know that's hit or miss when staying at a hotel). The Percheron Rooftop bar was fun but really for a younger crowd and the XR lobby bar was better for us. It was clean, so we were very comfortable. It is on the pricey side, but if you're wanting a unique experience, it does provide that. We took an Uber to a small local restaurant for dinner, so I can't speak to the restaurant in the hotel, but it did seem very busy when we were sitting at the lobby bar. Other than the Percheron, the noise level was just fine. We were able to go to sleep when we wanted and were not woken up in the night.
I did try to get a latte to go the morning we checked out but the person working the XR lobby bar barely even acknowledged me. Even after I asked her if someone was working at the bar (they do offer breakfast), she just answered that she was working but didn't follow-up to apologize or ask me what I wanted. I stood there another 2 minutes without her even looking at me, so I walked away. I did provide this feedback to the hotel, so hopefully they spoke to her. At a high end hotel, I expect stellar service and being ignored just rubbed me the wrong way.
Really wanted to like the hotel. The staff is great. Unfortunately I believe they were completely overwhelmed with the number of events happening in the hotel, and were not equipped to handle the load. Food service took over an hour for all meals. One of the meals in the formal restaurant was not able to be consumed. Completely ruined with an explosion of pepper. Room smelled horrible and was dark. Elevator was broken.
Large rooms, pizza was delicious
The neighborhood
Early check-in, friendly staff, spacious property and rooms and fantastic bars!
Only if a King room would have been available for early check-in and it was a little bit less expensive.
We celebrated our 25th anniversary at the Crossroads Hotel and it was a perfect 24 hours. From the moment you step in to the hotel, you know you are somewhere special. The staff are incredibly welcoming and treated us like VIPs during our stay. The food at Lazia was delicious and generous ( the handmade pasta, the lobster, the citrus tart, 10/10!) We went up to catch the views on the rooftop and definitely will be back with out of town guests for the view and the tapas. The room was luxurious, quiet and comfortable, perfect for sleeping in. Definitely recommend the rancheros tamales for breakfast. All in all it was a magical time and we hope to be back soon!!
This is a gorgeous hotel. Very cool and contemporary. Love the decor, terrific bar with craft cocktails, one of the best breakfasts I've ever had, and great location in the arts district. This is a very convenient location. We were able to walk to dinner, to Union Station and could have walked to the WW1 Museum had we stayed an extra day. We took a 20 day car trip throughout the trip and I think I enjoyed this hotel the best.
The mattress was excellent! Firm, yet soft on top. The shower was perfect, turn it on from opposite side of the shower head, plenty of room!
I was lucky enough to stay for a week for work, but wish I had been able to stay longer! The comfort, the location, the level of service, the overall vibe... amazing. I can't wait to come back!
Great location, cool vibe, the bottom floor bar and rooftop bar were both excellent! All rooms well appointed.
Nothing
I did not stay at the hotel. So this review will be about what the hotel didn't do instead of what they did.do. My daughter and her husband were staying at the hotel for their 5th wedding anniversary. They were married on May 1, 2021 and stayed at the hotel on their wedding night. So because this was going to be a big deal for them my wife and I decided to surprise them by covering all charges related to their stay. I called the hotel and informed them that I would be covering all charges. When I gave them my credit card information I also requested that my daughter and her husband, upon arrival, be greeted in the following way: "Happy anniversary from Davis". The lady I talked to ensured me that this would happen. Unfortunately this never happened. So I am very dissappointed that what could have been a great surprise for our daughter and her husband was ruined because someone did not follow through on my request. I know that to some this may seem like a little thing but it's the little things that separate a good hotel from an exceptional one.
(As a side note to this review our daughter did report to us that upon arrival they were treated rudely and their stay at the hotel did not go well. )
Great location, atmospher, rooms were very clean and classy. We were right across the hall from the elevator, on a weekend. So it was a tad noisy. Services was great. Prices are high. $55 for only breakfast burritos for breakfast. Room price is high. Other than that, great! It was a special occasion. May only do a stay once every other year.
I very much enjoyed my stay and especially the ability to support a boutique hotel. Highly recommend planning to utilize the valet parking, especially with all the current road construction. The outside of the hotel is fairly non descript, and blends into the surrounding Crossroads area very well, complimenting, rather than competing with the architecture. Inside is moody and has a very interesting vibe combining industrial style with the warmth of the Midwest. The art exhibit instillations were being changed out when I was there, but is definitely something I would have checked out. Loved my room, which also encompassed the warm industrial vibe. The ONLY thing I would change is better lighting in the bathroom for makeup application. Bar service was attentive and friendly with great cocktails. Overall a great experience and would for sure stay again.
Fabulous stay at Crossroads Hotel. Great location - especially for First Friday where we were in the heart of the vibrant street activity. And the lobby bar/restaurant was hopping every night - and the food and drinks were great. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and well appointed. I love the design/layout of the hotel - a lot of thought went into the design of the entire hotel. The rooftop restaurant/bar/lounge has an upbeat vibe and fabulous views. The front desk staff are enthusiastic and welcoming and ready to help in any way they can. Nothing but 5 stars all the way!
Beautiful historical building
Noisy; people could wonder around due to bar open to the public ; parking is difficult and pricey
This was the nicest overall experience I have had at a hotel. The room was clean and comfortable and nicely appointed. The shower was the best hotel shower I have had. The staff was 100% friendly and helpful. The food / bar area and great to hang out it and the food and drinks were top notch. If you have to stay in KC, stay here.
