It was in an amazing location and the breakfast was unbelievable! The staff were also wonderful and i loved that it felt like a Scandinavian hotel.

Scandic Nidelven is in a great new development in Trondheim, and it offers stunning views of the city and the river. The guest rooms are modern and well-appointed, even if the bathroom is on the smaller size. The atmosphere throughout the property is a blend of contemporary and warmth, making it an inviting retreat for both business travelers (there were plenty when we were there) and those exploring the historic sights of Trondheim. It’s a place where the service feels personal. The staff fits that description as well: very professional, ready to help, for example calling our aiport transport company on our behalf when we realized we lost our luggage.
As great as the hotel and staff are, though, the crown jewel there is undoubtedly the breakfast, which has famously been voted the best in Norway for over 15 years. The spread is nothing short of a culinary event, featuring an incredible array of local specialties and live cooking stations that cater to every possible preference. The staff talk about it with pride, and they should. This might be reason enough to stay there! Don’t miss it!

Let's be straight. Breakfast is the reason you should choose this hotel. It's -by far- the best breakfast I had in hotels so far. It's good in every sense, from sweet to salty, from meet to cheese and fruit. The espresso is a real espresso, orange juice is real orange juice. The room is ok, bed is ok, position is good too.

Our stay was unfortunately very embarrassing from start to finish.

The first room we were given was clearly not cleaned there were stains, and the toilet had been used and not flushed. We were moved, but the next two rooms also had visible cleanliness issues, including dried coffee spills, dirty surfaces, toothpaste residue, dirty glasses, questionable stains on the bed, and damaged bedding. After asking for the cleaning manager, the room was eventually cleaned properly, which we appreciated.

The next morning disappointment continued with no hot water left, only lukewarm, so I couldn’t shower. Breakfast was good, but the final impression was poor.

There was vomit outside ON the main entrance that hadn’t been cleaned, and guests were stepping in it when entering and leaving. It obviously been there all morning and no one thought to remove it?

Overall, the lack of basic cleanliness throughout the stay was disappointing and honestly quite embarrassing.

Your pillow and I have something in common after this stay: we’ve both seen too much.

The "family room" was a real rip-off here. It's a regular, quite small hotel room in which they have shoehorned two narrow twin beds and a pull out sofa. There isn't room to move around when the sofa is pulled out, and nowhere to sit. They charge a big mark-up for the room, but it's the same as any other room. The room we were given was dated and did not match the pictures on the website.

When we arrived, the two beds were pushed together as a double and we moved them apart ourselves. The sofa bed was not made up and we had to request housekeeping do it. They were deeply resentful about it, and made us stand in the hall while they made it up. We asked for extra pillows and towels so everyone could have a pillow and a towel, and you might have thought we'd asked for four-course meal to be brought to the room.

They also charge for early check-in, which might be a thing in Norway, but may strike N.Americans as a bit chiseling.
