the location was great, kind of in the middle of the ski slope that is also not that frequented by all the ski schools. The staff was great and even gave us many recommendations for restaurants. the view from the room was astounding.
the building is quite aged and lack of working wifi is definitely a problem for anyone planning on workcations (phone internet providers have good reception though). it was also a bit curious that we were asked to readjust the gear rented by the hotel by ourselves when it’s pretty obvious our experience was lacking.
The location is perfect and the price was phenomenal. No restaurants around but the hotel caters buffet breakfast and dinner (shoutout to the tempura master). Had a blast and would recommend for a fantastic budget option.
The futons were slightly thin, but adding a second one from the closet helped immensely. The wifi downstairs stopped working for a couple of days but still had mobile reception so no big deal.
Ski in ski out in the middle of the mountain.
One of the employees (maybe the owner, not sure of his status at the hotel) at check out came around the desk, came close to me, pointed his finger into my face and yelled “get out, get out”. I was asking about the tax fee he was charging us. Wasn’t happy with me asking question (I wasn’t aware of that tax, so I asked questions because never had to pay that kind of taxes before in Japan). Because of that, he didn’t want to provide us the shuttle transport back to the bus stop. That service is included when you book the room because there are no other way to get in and out of Swiss Inn, unless your are on your ski. His behavior was physically aggressif and abusif. There was no discussion possible, just yelling. We got scared and being in a foreign country we did what we were told, we left. We walked down the steep and icy ski hill with all of our suitcases. That was the only choice. There are no taxi services. We made it safely down, took the gondola up and caught the bus on time. So, do I recommand that place? No because of aggressif behavior. Being in the middle of the mountain, you are at the mercy of the hotel.
Run down hotel with junk hanging everywhere.
Old ski equipment (they told me it was half price compared to other places, which wasn’t true). My husband had to change his skis after the first day. Even after changing his skis, he had trouble with them.
Old room with holes in walls and carpet.
Overprice buffet so we bought frozen meal. We saved a lot by doing that.
Nice view.
Hard to get to and from. Not suitable for beginners. No restaurant nearby. No lessons available except in Japanese. Everything closed on Wednesday. Woke up with sore back every morning. Hotel is ageing, more like a lodge.
Location was great
Definitely has seen better days, and kind of dirty if you go away from the main areas
Comfortable room, very large compared to every other place I stayed in Japan. Facilities were fine, staff were very friendly and helpful.
It is a bit of a mission to get to but the team there were very accomodating organising the shuttle bus and even picking me up at the exact time the main but got me up the mountain. I was the last passenger and I got off the big bus in the snow and the shuttle was there waiting as I had called ahead.
Also as they state on their website, the snow equipment hire is pretty outdated. My second board hire in Hakuba was a much better board that I felt way more comfortable on. Not a big deal but something worth noting.
Like others have said, Shiga Swiss Inn has amazing value for the benefits it offers. I was impressed by the service, amenities, and the location. I only planned to make one visit, but decided to come back because of the great value this place offers.
Incredibly polite and helpful staff.
The hotel is a bit run down.. The rooms are massive.
Clean quiet and good location
The food was always cold even the what was supposed to be hot
Very convenient location. Staff were helpful, courteous and nice. Decor a little dated but I was there to ski. Food was excellent. Would recommend.
