Pros:

I thought the place was comfortable, the upgrade to the club/lounge was worth it more so than paying for breakfast each morning. I love Spiga, as a local I go there every so often for a nice date night with my girl.

Cons:

I thought for the value it was over priced. I am also used to a different type of travel and this was more of a random stay-cation/anniversary stay. I typically would not spend this much on a place, and when I did this time around I did not think that it was worth the cost.

Great Downtown San Diego Bay Hotel next to the train station
Pros:

Nice hotel on the San Diego Bay and across the street from the Dowtown San Diego Santa Fe train station. Rooms have a view of the Bay and it’s about a 6 block walk to Little Italy. One negative are the number of homeless people in the area, especially at night when the sleep in front of the hotel back entrance.

Hotel is very nice!!
Pros:

Location very central. Rooms very large. Clean and no noise. Ate at restaurant and happy hour very good and affordable. Did not have dinner at the hotel. Parking easy, although around $50. Check-in easy and got an upgrade upon asking. Definitely would recommend.

Mixed Feelings
Pros:

We have mixed feelings about this hotel.

Context: We stayed here for 4D/3N. We got upgraded to a harbor view room from a standard king room with our platinum elite status. We also booked the hotel through Chase’s hotel luxury program where we are given $100 credit that can be spent for parking, food, basically anything.

Good things:
- The room was clean, bed and blanket were very comfortable.
- We loved the floor to ceiling windows and the view of the harbor and airport. The lounge chair was also very comfy to sit in.
- The check-in (Marie) and check-out (Riley) employees were incredibly nice and helpful.
- We got lunch at Vistal. We sat down at 12:30 and they said they could give us the happy hour prices which typically start at 1pm. So that was very nice. The food was also very good. We got the fish tacos, guacamole, and tuna tostada. Service during lunch was 5/5, super attentive staff to our requests and regularly checked in on how we were doing.

Bad:
- Breakfast is NOT WORTH IT. For 2 people at Vistal, it ended up being close to $100 ($39/per person + tax + 18% service charge). The food was nothing special. The typical breakfast buffet items you would get (for free) at other hotels. Quality of food was pretty bad for the price you’re paying. The fresh fruit tasted like it was slimy and old. There was not a lot of dietary restriction signage and our server was not attentive at all. He missed our orange juice and didn’t check in on us at all. It was very hard to flag him down when it wasn’t even that busy. It felt like he was purposefully ignoring us. For the default 18% service charge where you’d have to go out your way to ask for a new check without the service charge on it, they definitely need better service.
- You get complimentary water in your room every day. Since we didn’t get housekeeping, we texted them to get our waters. When we received them, there was literally a piece of chewed up gum stuck to the bottle they gave us. Unacceptable and disgusting.
- We had a car with us and it was $46 per night. Quite expensive but comparable to other hotels in downtown SD. We hoped to use the $100 Chase credit toward parking but was surprised during checkout when our Chase credit was used first for breakfast/lunch before the $23 daily amenity fee credit was applied. So sneaky and left us feeling very deceived. Riley who helped us check out was very nice though. He walked us through the bill and helped resolve the bill to what we had originally thought we would be paying. IHG should really make it more transparent which credits will be used in what order to customers.
- There is no fridge in the room. Only a fridge with drinks that you have to pay for.
- No vent in the bathroom besides inside the shower, which doesn’t vent the toilet area…

Basic
Pros:

TIMES ARE STRICT!!! Don’t count on extending your check out!!!!!! That’s the main thing I didn’t like. They came knocking at 10:59am and checkout was 11am. We called to extend for 12pm but on hold for 2 mins and then they said no. Otherwise room was ok. The bathroom door was such that it never really closed. It rolled and then bounced back and a crack was always there….. basically no privacy whatsoever. Other than that the lobby won’t go to the outside. You have to take elevator to the street floor. The view is amazing I have to say and also the parking was great! Customer service was meh…

Great location with "surprising" charges
Pros:

Do NOT book this hotel from a 3rd party website. There's no mention of "amenity fee" and tax associated with this strange fee ($58 per day) anywhere. The hotel booking through Chase Travel or Expedia clearly indicated that all "fees and taxes" are included. This charge happened upon check out even if the hotel charge was fully paid in advance.

Next time I’ll pass on this property
Pros:

This is a beautiful property. Bar staff and restaurant staff were excellent. However there were issues. Upon arrival (I got in earlier than expected) the person at the desk thanked me for being a gold member. Then promptly told me I’d have to pay $35 if I wanted to get into my room early. I went to the bar to wait. Today I checked out. I had a $23 food and beverage credit that didn’t appear on my bill. You can’t use it on the day of departure, they said. I was only there one night!! I didn’t think my $55 breakfast buffet bill was that bad because of the credit only to find out I couldn’t use it.
I know it’s not a lot but I still didn’t like it. Next time I visit San Diego I’ll skip the International!

Another enjoyable stay...
Pros:

The hotel is very good. The room was comfortable; the bed was the kind you don't want to leave in the morning, and the location along the waterfront was scenic and central. The breakfast buffet was what you'd expect, though not impressive, and the busy bar off the lobby gets packed and loud in the evenings, relativeky minor flaws in an otherwise enjoyable stay, our third. Wait and bar staff were terrific, but Eric at the front desk went above and beyond to help make our stay special.

Great hotel!
Pros:

This hotel saved us at the last minute. We were staying at a different hotel for a soccer tournament. That other hotel was terrible in terms of cleanliness, safety and its overall condition.

Since I am an IHG Diamond Ambassador, I used points to reserve a last minute room at the InterContinental San Diego. This hotel made sure that the room we got was deep cleaned of pet hair and dander since my husband is allergic to dogs and cats. Also, Riley at the front desk was fantastic! He was familiar with the benefits of a Diamond Ambassador so our check in and check out were seamless. The room we stayed in was clean and housekeeping made sure that my family had everything we needed (ie enough luggage racks and slippers).

We will return when we are in San Diego again!
