This is a lovely hotel just opposite the train station and a very short walk into Skipton town centre. The staff were all very pleasant and eager to help. Booking a room with lift access made this an ideal place for those with any mobility issues. The decor is fresh and modern. Food was excellent both evening meal and breakfast
Location , spacious room & bathroom, clean
A lot of noise travelling up from below the room & from the rooms above.
Staff very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious. The hotel was central and had parking.
Sliding door into bathroom.
We have just returned from a weekend at the Herriot and cannot praise the staff and hotel enough. From the cleaning staff, waitresses, waiters, We have had the best time. Great breakfast with plenty of choice, we also had our evening meal & afternoon tea at the hotel during our long week end break & it was amazing, only managed a few names but Chris, Susan & hopefully we got this right Amera? apologise if this is incorrect (tall lady with the best Afro ) so hard working they never stopped & could not do enough to ensure our stay was memorable & it definitely was, Chris was helpful checking us in & had great local knowledge in fact all the staff there are just the best. Even the gentleman we met cleaning rooms was such a happy polite gentleman telling us whilst beaming with pride he has been working there for 15 years, which speaks volumes hey.. We cannot recommend this hotel & staff highly enough it’s definately so much better than a three* we will definately be back. Thank you Chris & team for the best stay. xx
Our whole stay was excellent, breakfast was really nice, great choice and we stayed for evening meal twice and it was delicious especially the sunday roast
Bit trivial - coffee machine, coffee's were always cold, in the morning we just had the filter which was guaranteed hot
Had an absolute fantastic stay the food should have a Michelin star as a chef myself attention to detail was outstanding...excellent food and presentation.
Great team of staff in the hotel all seem to get on well and enjoy looking after guests.
Definitely will be coming back again soon
Lovely clean rooms. We stayed in the wharf suite, superb.
Had dinner and breakfast there. Super quality food.
I can understand how there are so many excellent reviews for this hotel. The location is ideal for a walk into Skipton, the railway station is 400 yds away, the car park is easily accessible and the staff were very helpful and pleasant.
Our 3 night stay commenced with Sunday lunch which was lovely, hot, with four types of vegetables, but sadly no table linen (my wife noticed this), just the plate placed on the table.
After lunch, our room was available (Wharf Room No 26) and our first impression of it was lovely - large with a 4 poster bed, double settee and a large bathroom. Sadly, that was the good report. Staying in the room for 3 nights we noticed the small issues becoming more numerous:- first the bathroom, it took 4 to 5 minutes for the hot water to appear; there wasn’t any shelving to place cosmetics, shampoos etc whether for daily usage and particularly when using the bath. Whilst in the bath, it was impossible to “top the water up” as the waterfall tap was located at the side centre of the bath and would burn you as you could not move out of the way. To top it all, once in the bathroom (going through a flimsy non private sliding door) one was greeted with a 3 inch step which is bad enough in daylight but as we found horrendous and dangerous) during the night.
To the bedroom:- one had to be 7 feet tall to open, close or tilt the blinds as the cords were out of reach. We noticed on the eve of our last night because of the change in wind direction that there was a substantial gap in one of the windows which was causing it bang consistently and was only remedied by wedging a piece of folded paper in between which then left us at whim of the cold wind coming in.
Whether properly fitted double glazing would have helped, I don’t think so, but the noise from the outside beeping of the pedestrian crossing was incessant.
A small fridge was available to us in our room, fortunately it was portable and one could move it as it was placed 2 feet from one’s pillow and it was of course very noisy.
These are all small issues that on there own may not be much but as a whole they did not contribute to an enjoyable stay.
Breakfast was fine, hot and good produce. A bit too much of a self service approach apart from delivering the hot breakfast.
I am not one to complain out of hand but I raised these issues with reception upon departure and was told to put them on Tripadvisor🤷🏻♂️.
We had visiting family from the USA and Southport who were treated royally when they stayed at the hotel for 3 nights from the 1st March.
The rooms were sumptuous, spacious and overlooked the canal which made them quiet with tranquil views.
The hotel was ideally situated for trains, trips by bus and gentle walks into town.
The staff were so friendly, offering them a warm welcome, making their stay enjoyable and memorable.
Thank you team Herriots.
Excellent hotel and staff.
Convenient for rail station and town
No lift
I had a lovely stay at Herriots on my first trip to the UK. This hotel is clean, quiet, nicely decorated, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. It is ideally located just across the street from the Skipton railway station. The canal is directly behind the hotel, which makes for a beautiful walk to Aireville Park or into town, Skipton Castle, and Skipton Castle Woods. The food at the hotel restaurant, the Rhubarb, was delicious. I'll definitely be back!
I recently stayed at Herriots Hotel for my birthday weekend and had such a lovely experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly helpful, welcoming and attentive nothing was too much trouble.
The food was absolutely amazing, beautifully presented and full of flavour. It really made the weekend feel extra special. The atmosphere throughout the hotel was warm and relaxed, which made it the perfect place to celebrate.
Overall, I had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend Herriots Hotel for a special occasion or a relaxing break away. I’ll definitely be returning!
Thank you everyone!
Loved this place. Great staff. Great food. Comfy and relaxed and well situated by the canal.
Will go back whenever I’m up that way
Thank you
Cooked Breakfast took an age to come on Saturday morning, nearly an hour. The excuse was given that they only had one chef, that is not a good enough excuse for a 3 star hotel. Save you’re money and go to Morrisons over the road for around half the price.
The bar was a big bone of contention for me for two reasons.
Firstly it’s the first Hotel bar I have been to that closes at 11:00pm on a weekend and physically sends you to bed, “make your way to your rooms” was, I think the term used. This must be a big turn away for many guests, it is for me.
Secondly, one particular member of the bar staff, dark hair, long decorated nails, upset one of our friends so much it made her cry, just because the member of the bar staff (manager possibly) overheard something in our conversation that she thought was directed at her when she told us to go to bed. Not professional, not needed and the aggression was way over the top. She did apologise but only after just about our whole group had to tell her she was wrong to assume what she did.
In my room, when I arrived there was an awful smell in the room, I reported it to someone in the bar who said it would be looked at, on Friday afternoon, I told a cleaner, it was exactly the same when I left on Sunday. A awful sewage smell, horrible and not what I expected.
We really enjoyed our stay at The Heriot, on arrival the staff were very welcoming and informative the room was spacious with all the amenities and the bed was very comfortable. We where on package bed breakfast and evening meal and in the evening we had a delicious 2 course meal we where a party of 5 and everyone enjoyed the meals once again the staff where very accommodating making every effort to make our experience a very pleasant experience then we had drinks from the well stocked bar that evening. After a good nights sleep we noticed at breakfast that we would not be able to sit together for breakfast but once again the staff intervened and put up an extra large table in the next room which was great as we where all going our separate ways at check out breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice for everyone. All in all I would highly recommend the Heriot Hotel at Skipton if you are visiting the area it has a spacious car park and is also just across the road from train station and in easy walking distance of the town centre .
Nice room with big bed
Convenient if arriving by train as station just across the road
Easy access to canal path
Windows should be triple glazed as hotel on a main road.
Dressing room lamp not working.
Bathroom tap and wc press were both loose
Had to remind breakfast staff that we were waiting a while, and someone else who arrived at breakfast after us was served before us.
Good location, ample sitting areas.
