We booked a room for 3 nights, and my friend stayed alone the first night. On the second night, a man broke into our room at 4am while we were sleeping. We had locked the room, so I am not sure whether he had our security code (which was supposedly unique and secret) or whether the building’s security system was compromised. Regardless, no hotel room should be opened from the outside unless it is left open.
We called the hotel’s contact number, and when they finally answered, the first thing they said was, “I don’t believe this, it’s impossible,” instead of investigating our concern. I insisted they check their video recordings if they didn’t believe us. They did so and called us back approximately 30 minutes later. They confirmed that they saw a man and a woman looking through the windows and at the door, and suggested that maybe someone had left the front door open.
They then told us that our door appeared “blocked” in their system and asked us to close it by turning the handle multiple times. (Usually, the door was supposed to lock simply by pressing the handle, so I assume this was their way of acknowledging that something was not functioning properly.)
I asked them to change our security code. They initially refused, stating that all codes are unique to each stay and are automatically changed at checkout for the next guests. I insisted, explaining that this was a serious security issue and that I had no way of knowing whether the man would return. They eventually agreed to change the code and said they would send us a message with the new one. They did not do as promised. The next day, when we left to search for a new property, we noticed that neither our door nor the front door were locking at all. We called more than ten times, and nobody answered. They only replied three hours later, again telling us they didn’t believe the doors were not locking. I asked them once more to check, and about 30 minutes later they sent us a new code and an apology.
At that point, we felt even less safe staying there, so we left the property sometime after 3 pm that day. The worst part actually happened after check‑out, when they tried to cover up the entire incident by claiming it was a genuine mistake by a customer who “entered our room by accident.” They took no responsibility for any of the security failures, insisting that we had left the door open and that “things like this happen in all hotels around the world.”
They also lied about the event occurring on the first night in order to avoid giving us a refund, stating that if we were so unhappy, we should have left immediately and not stayed the extra nights. They accused us of dramatizing the situation and just wanting a free holiday, completely ignoring the gravity of such a serious security breach and the fact that we could have been raped or killed that night. Incidents like this do happen, especially considering that there is a very dodgy residential building directly opposite the hotel entrance (less than 1m away), where people could easily see that my friend was alone on the first night.
They took no responsibility and lied to Booking.com about how the events unfolded. I requested a refund after presenting all the information to Booking.com. They showed no professionalism, no willingness to take necessary measures to ensure our safety, and they refused to communicate most of the time. When they did answer, their attitude was unprofessional and at times disrespectful. I genuinely felt they did not deserve any payment considering the circumstances.
If something like this ever happens to you, CALL THE POLICE FIRST, not the hotel. DO NOT TRUST THAT THEY WILL TAKE CARE OF THE SITUATION OR YOUR SAFETY!! They will lie and manipulate the narrative. Fortunately, they have video recordings, and I asked Booking.com to request them during their investigation, as places like this should not be available to the public due to serious safety and security risks.
This is a nicely renovated old building, so it has its own history and charm. It is on a shopping street - even though not at its peak. Yet right around the corner there is a nice patisserie that bakes its own products. It goes straight to the beach. It also goes to 1869 which is one of our favourite dining places in Constanta.
There is no staff, this is one of those modern buildings where one gets a code to enter and exits
Nota 10!
