So, I'm updating my initial review from two years ago, as from my recent stay I'm better understanding the issue. First, let me say STAFF is exceptional and take pride in their professionalism. Deidra is tops!!!
My first stay, two years ago....the refrigerator needed to be replaced. No big deal. Of the two hotels along the waterfront, I prefer the TownePlace. My second time staying there was January of this year. Upon arriving to check-in, I was informed the hot water unit was broken and would not be repaired until well after my departure. Staff gladly canceled my reservation and I had to go across the way to the other hotel. Still, inconvenienced but not that big of a deal. A week ago, I checked in and was told the elevators were out!!!!!! My unit was on the top floor (3rd floor), so I had to foot it. Up/Down for 3 days.
It dawned on me, this hotel must be a franchise owner. They have owned the property since it opened 10 years ago. The room rates are not low-budget and I choose to stay there due to the Marriott brand. While it may not be noticeable from the exterior or the check-in area, the furnishings are dated (i.e., tattered carpet, worn furniture, slow remotes, bath areas, etc.) and the property is in desperate need of an immediate investment. If and when it does, it could easily be what Marriott advertises. Until then, I feel sorry for the hard-working staff and wish the current owner either sells the property or upgrades it to the Marriott standard.
One last point, except the elevator......everything else is very functional. The property simply needs to be updated. If I choose to stay there in the future, it will only be because the staff is so friendly and they can only do what they can do.
The elevator was broken
The scenery
We recently stayed at the TownePlace Suites in Vidalia, LA, for my step-daughter’s high school graduation, and I truly want to start by recognizing the staff. Every employee we encountered was kind, professional, and genuinely seemed to go out of their way to make guests feel welcome and happy. You could tell they cared deeply about the property and the guest experience, despite circumstances that were clearly outside of their control. Honestly, we left feeling more sympathy for the hardworking employees than frustration with them.
That said, as frequent Marriott Bonvoy guests who stay at Marriott properties almost monthly for work travel, we were honestly shocked at the overall condition of this hotel. The elevators were not functioning, the gym was closed, and our room had exposed nails where the carpet had become threadbare — something that felt both unsafe and far below Marriott brand standards.
What makes this especially disappointing is that the property actually has so much potential. The pool area was lovely, and the views were genuinely beautiful. With proper investment and maintenance, this could be a wonderful property.
What surprised us most was that Marriott corporate appears to have allowed the hotel to deteriorate to a point where it no longer reflects the quality or consistency most travelers associate with the Marriott Bonvoy brand. We understand older properties require upkeep, but this felt beyond minor wear and tear.
Again, none of this reflects on the staff, who were exceptional throughout our stay. They deserve credit for doing their absolute best in a difficult situation. We just hope Marriott steps in to support both the employees and the property itself, because right now the dedicated team there deserves much better.

I like everything about the stay, everything was great. I have no complaints.
I like everything.
A clean and comfortable hotel with extremely friendly staff. I stayed here many times for work purposes, and I highly recommend this location.
Lots of construction hinders the use of certain amenities, but this is understandable in the improvment of the property.
The Staff exceeded my expectations and made my visit a delectational and therapeutic experience. They should be cloned 10,000 times and placed in ALL of the US facilities.

The staff was friendly and we had a beautiful view of the Mississippi River.
It’s under renovation and needs more work, especially the floors.
Nothing
Water smelled like eggs bed was uncomfortable
The staff was extremely friendly and kind. They were very willing to help resolve any issues that we may have. The bed was comfortable, and the rooms were extremely clean.
Only one of the two elevators was working. Also, it’s not that we did not like it, but there were multiple renovations going on so several areas were marked off with tarps in the lobby and under repair.
Clean.
No pool towels at the pool.
