Worst Accor hotel I have ever been to. Platinum member but no welcome drinks.
Hotel was undergoing renovations and our room was exactly underneath it. Vibrations and noise level were deafening. Asked for a room change but the lady at front desk said that it’s the same everywhere. Did not offer earplugs or even an apology drink. I have videos to proof how bad the vibrations were. Honestly any other room would have been better. Front desk lady just told us to stay away from the hotel / go out from 2pm to 6pm. Wtf?
Lady who served us at front desk was also rude since check-in. Zero customer service. Even the housekeepers had better service than her. Honestly, shouldnt be working in front desk.
Hallways always smell of cigarettes eventhough it’s a non-smoking hotel. I have asthma and the smell always leak into my room. Terrible.
Hotel breakfast is also horribly bland and dry. Only the wontons are good.
Only good side of this entire stay, is that the room is clean. Would never stay here again or recommend anyone to.
Be warned, this Mercure does not recognize Accor status. They did not provide a priority check-in, welcome drink, auto-upgrade, or any other status benefits without lots of insisting. Additionally they did not credit my nights to Accor automatically, and it had to be manually credited.
The entrance was under construction, and unassumingly down the street a little bit from the Global Harbor mall and Metro station. The elevators and lobby are shared with the rest of the building, with the hotel only occupying a couple of the middle floors within the 20+ floor building.
The room is fine, albeit present with the inescapable smell of cigarettes (found throughout China, it is truly inescapable in this country). Free water, pleasant shower, comfortable bed, decent view. One morning while waking up to a particularly strong smell of cigarettes, I found a man smoking in the hallway immediately outside my door, filling the entire hall with smoke and dumping the buts out the window.
Overall I found my stay disappointing. Not a hotel I would stay at again.
This hotel damages Accor good name and brand. Checked in on 15 Oct midnight, 1230am to a gloomy lobby as if this is a 2-star hotel. The receptionist was not able to locate my booking. It was only after 10 minutes of searching that he found my booking.
Was told that the air conditioning for the entire hotel is NOT WORKING and need a week or so to fix. However, they were kind enough to offer a standing fan for me. Checked out immediately the next morning and shifted to another botel
As a Platinum Member of Accor Group, this is the worst stay I ever had under Mercure brand. Not recommended. Time to rethink if Accor should be running this hotel.
I stayed at this hotel in early 2019 and I remembered the service to be bad. The housekeeping staff at that time would enter the rooms daily, whether or not you put the Do Not Disturb light on. The front desk was also very unprofessional and caused my booking /check-in to be messed up.
This time however, WHAT A CHANGE. I wonder if there was a change in management because the staff were fully professional and the service was definitely worthy of a 4-star rating, if not 5.
The room is the best for the money in Shanghai, and I have stayed in many hotels in Shanghai. Super comfortable bed and pillows, excellent toilet and shower layout and design, comfortable furniture and large work desk. I stayed around a month as I kept extending my stay!
If you order food delivery from a Chinese delivery app, you can request the front desk to send it up to your room using the robot.
Staff are very friendly and professional, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
I would definitely return to stay here.
ps. I hope the hotel will put up the Mercure sideboard somewhere on the building as the hotel is almost "hidden" due to it not looking like a hotel at all and you won't see a Mecure logo anywhere until you are facing the entrance.
The main positive is the room. The room is a fantastic hard product and is well appointed, of the standards of an accor hotel brand. The other positive is the location as the hotel is right next to the Global Harbor Mall and the subway station so it is very convenient.
That's where the positive ends. The staff at the counter apparently checked me in directly and cancelled my online booking but then the online booking site called me days later asking why I didn't check in?? They also said they made me a gold member of the hotel but do Accor hotels give out their own membership.....? Took a photo of my passport too which made me feel very uncomfortable.
It also seems as though most of the guests who stay at this hotel are local tourist. I hardly saw any other business travellers or foreigners at all.
The buffet breakfast is terrible as well. But as a gold member, it was free so I can't complain.
It almost feel like the owner of the hotel simply bought the license to use the Accor and Mecure branding but apart from the room, nothing else about this place felt like an Accor group product. Aircon wasn't even working!
It is such a mix bag, I am not even sure myself if I will come back here.
Clean n nice
nice hotel, close out metro shopping mall and convenient store.
This hotel is well located for the Bund and old Shanghai. Rooms are a decent size and good quality. Breakfast was a decent choice.
What let it down was bar service. It is a small counter tucked away in a corner and more akin to a lost property room than that expected in a business class hotel. A party of us struggled to get end of tour drinks as it closed at 10pm!
The lobby looks spectacular and the check in was smooth.
The view from the room is amazing with the Shanghai skyline being ever present. Rooms are well appointed.
Had some difficulty communicating with the staff but that's not an issue local to the hotel.
Small room but clean, bed was hard but seemed to be common in China if three star hotel and below. No wifi went to other hotel and nothing in neighbourhood, would not return expensive food and poor quality
I have stayed at this hotel a number of times on my way through Shanghai for business at found it to be good value for money. The staff do their best to accommodate English and there is a western Resturant as well as a Chinese Resturant in the hotel which both provide adequate meals. The beds are traditionally Chinese hardness but othrenthenthat the rooms are of good size and clean. Xian tan di a great dinning area along with many other options are only aprox $10 USD away by cab.
Stayed here because it was close to a conference in local university.
My poor rating is based on the following.
Poor english spoken by all staff.
Dirty carpet in room.
Dirty bath in room.
Expensive food and coffee in bar.
A great deal of noise from nearby road junction and train line.
Rude reception staff.
The good points????
It was clean overall
Room size reasonable
Cheap chinese restaurants nearby.
As for local eateries? There a few across the road and we tried three of them. Compared to England they are very cheap. But the menus are very chinese i.e. food not to western palette. The one we do recommend is the one with the word 'summer' on the sign. The proprietor was very helpful and friendly. he spoke no english but did have good sign language skills. You cook your own food at the table in a big steam pot. a bit like a fondue.
This hotel offered me a great price, a great location (very close to Metro), free internet, obliging staff, a full size room, and zero real problems. I will definitely stay there again if their rate remains so competetive.
The in-room safe was too small for my laptop. There's not much in the immediate neighbourhood, although the canals are interesting and one Metro station away is a giant shopping mall. Also, there is a huge development under construction next to the Metro.
The location of the hotel is on a crowded street with much noise and the near by area is not so clean but however once insde the hotel it is quite clean and comfortable. The service was decent with reasonable good staff. The rooms were small with good hygiene. The rooms had the basic amenities with fairly good room service. The food was good but the space was less as it was very crowded in the breakfast area which was jusy situated next to the lobby which made it very noisy.
It was terribel- from the food to the bed to the service! Front desk didn't speak any English and were very rude at best for the 110 of us! Terrible location in a dumpy area of city, shops were far away, rooms run down and dirty including the bed, carpets even worse! There are much more well known Hotels to chose from, would never stay here again.
Service was good. Room good, but carpet was dirty and shabby. Location is good for Hangqiao airport, but a little far from downtown, but the subway is just 1/2 block from hotel. TV channels were just in Chinese. Breakfast had a good variety of foods. Bed was the standard Chinese hard variety. But the price is right.
Usually travel agent will book a hotel located in the outskirts but my agent arranged for this hotel which is considered in the city centre. However, there is nothing to see outside the hotel except a 24 hour mart. The hotel looks very presentable outside, The hotel room is very spacious, it is clean, toilet is clean, 2 extra pillows are available in the wardrobe, bedroom slippers available, hair dryer is avaible etc. I have no complaints for the breakfast. They serve sushi for breakfast as well and I reckon that is mainly due to many Japanese tourist staying here. The price should be reasonable, otherwise my travel agent would not have contracted this hotel in our private group tour for a 10 pax. To get to Pudong area where all the shopping are, the ride will take about 30 minutes or more, depending on the traffic condition. Traffic in Shanghai is horrendous during weekdays, peak period.
I strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to stay in a more comfortable environment without splashing so much money for it.
