Won’t be back
Pros:

The first time we have had such a bad experience in a hotel. From the moment we arrived we didn’t get a good welcome. The hotel door was locked. When we got in the girl at reception told us the only room left was a triple room even though we had booked a queens size bed, it turned out triple room meant three single beds! She then told us that we didn’t have breakfast included even though I said we had an email from hotels.com saying free breakfast for 2 she said we hadn’t paid enough for breakfast but was arguing with us how much we had paid, she said she would check with the manager but never got back to us. The corridor smelt musty and the carpets were worn. The room was dusty and the bath had a dirty stain on the bottom and the bathroom had broken and loose tiles.
We went down for a meal and things didn’t get any better. At least one of the light fittings had large cobwebs on them. The starter was pleasant but when it came to the main course mine was inedible instead of the honey glazed duck I was expecting the sauce was so full of sauce I can only assume someone replaced sugar for salt. hen I complained they did offer to make me something new but my husband had to eat his and was finished by the time mine arrived so I didn’t feel like eating by myself. The only saving grace of the whole place was Valerie who we met in the morning who didn’t think twice about giving us breakfast when my husband said what had happened the night before. The breakfast was also fresh a plus.

It would be fine at half the price
Pros:

Anyone that travels in Ireland knows booking hotels is a bit like playing roulette and sometimes you find an absolute gem, unfortunately this wasn’t one of them.

On the upside the staff are friendly and the food is fine, however....

Whilst there are signs saying the hotel is undergoing refurbishment it is about 10 years overdue.
The bedroom has had a fresh lick of paint, the bathroom however is beyond tired with mold in between the tiles and on the blind, plus the bath was water stained orange at one end.
Noise is also an issue with the walls shaking whenever someone closes a door.
The bed has obviously seen some action over the years as the springs continuously migrate you to the centre if the bed. The bedding is clean however the mattress protector was visibly stained which could be seen through the sheets.

Don’t get me wrong this isn’t an absolute dive, I would just expect a lot more for the price charged

Pros:

The location is good. The staff are friendly. The bar and reception decor are nice.

There were no snacks available in the bar (crisps, nuts etc.). A member of bar staff did offer a pizza menu as an alternative.

The bedroom was basic. There was a smell of fresh paint and dry rot, which was a bit over powering.

The blinds did not function correctly. It would not go down all the way. There were no curtains so I had to put pillows against the window to stop light coming in.

The shower was poor. Low pressure and barely a drizzle.

Not Happy
Pros:

I could not fault the hotel or staff, but there was a 21st party on the same night we stayed 30th March.
from 2.30 am to 6 am the people at the party were screaming, banging on doors at one stage they tried to get into our room which was room 104 & 103, there was no sign of the night porter and no one at the reception right up to the time we left at 12 noon.

Pros:

We got a room separated by a door from next room. It is very useful when you travel with children. However, in this case the management should advise in advance about the availability of this kind of rooms.

Kildare House Hotel - an honest review
Pros:

The check-in was an expereicne - an empty desk and a wait until a member of staff walked by with their dinner and I intercetped them and they got a person.
The room was comfortable and clean and the breakfast was lovely.

Highly recommended!
Pros:

Great location, friendly and helpful staff, relaxing atmosphere in restaurant and bar area. Bedrooms good size and spotless, beds very comfortable. Depending on aspect of room road outside had a lot of traffic. Compared to the communal areas bedrooms were slightly dated. Breakfast was top class. In walking distance to the town and kildare village. Great value for money and a truly enjoyable experience. Definitely would stay there again!
