Excellent reception when checking in. Room was great, plenty of room, really clean and very comfortable bed. Great supplies in communal kitchen for breakfast. Relaxed environment and beautiful old building lovingly maintained.
Not a negative for the accommodation itself AT ALL, but as travellers, I think we need to ensure what we book is actually suitable for our needs. We really loved it, my knees with the stairs, not so much. Also, sharing a very small bar fridge with multiple rooms is challenging. Keep it in mind. Getting a bit long in the tooth for this type of set up, but genuinely enjoyed being here. Might not get to do something like this again. Thank you.

Nice old pub, with comfortable self-contained room and off-street parking. Good atmosphere in the bar, and a cosy little cafe/restaurant is attached to the hotel. We had a meal at the hotel which was well priced, large and very tasty (try the venison). Quite a few other travelers were staying at the same time, and we struck up some really pleasant conversations. Nice, large, relaxed area for people staying to use for relaxing and for breakfast (continental). Breakfast was good and even though there were many guests eating at the same time there was plenty of space and the vibe was good. A local chap runs a free platypus spotting walk from the front of the hotel along the banks of the Meander River on dusk and it is a good opportunity to see platypus in the wild. The gent is quite a character and has a wealth of knowledge on platypus and the area in general. I bought him a drink when we got back to the bar as he freely donates his own time to help visitors enjoy Deloraine. My partner and I done the walk again at sparrow fart the next morning and saw quite a lot of platypus, with the foot bridge being a good vantage point.
Hotel is delightfully old hotel with lovely staff.
Mike's platypus work in the afternoon was an unexpected bonus and very informative. We also spotted six platypus in the river. 🌞

Lovely town! (Not much else… The Empire neglected to mention that they were closed for renovation despite still charging full price. The location would have been great… if the Hotel or anything else in town was open. No food or drinks available.)
The Empire was closed. It was still very noisy. No staff, no food, no drinks and my room was not clean at all. Breakfast (I use that term loosely!) was insufficient and had been already eaten by other guests (there were only 3 of them!) and was either very stale bread for toast, or stale cereal with UHT milk. Fruit juice was all empty. I’d booked because the bio said “full breakfast”, “great pub food” and “best drinks” but that was simply not true. I booked on the same morning of my stay and they failed to mention that they were closed for renovation! Disappointed and hungry! (Nowhere else open to eat!) I was told that I had a room upgrade… to a smaller and lesser room!!!
