Fawlty Towers" on Samosir Island – A Disaster from Start to FinishAfter trekking through the jungles of Sumatra, my family and I booked Zoe’s Waterfront Paradise Hotel expecting a bit of luxury, poolside drinks, and a beautiful lake setting. Instead, we got a comedy of errors that felt exactly like staying at Fawlty Towers.Room Downgrade & No Chairs: We specifically requested rooms with a lake view but were given a view of the street. There was a shared balcony with a lake view, but it had zero seating. When we asked for chairs, we were told there were no extras. I had to demand a plastic chair or a crate just to sit down; two chairs finally appeared, only to mysteriously vanish the next day.Dismal Rooms & Broken Amenities: The rooms were incredibly rundown. The sheets were so threadbare that I literally woke up with my toe poking through a hole, and my son's bedding was just as bad. The bedside light was broken, and the TV didn't work (accompanied by a casual apology from staff). To top it off, there was a passive-aggressive poster warning guests they would be charged if they stole room items. This was laughable, as only a fraction of the listed items were actually present, and everything was old or broken.Appalling Cleanliness: The shared tea and coffee facilities were left in the hallway with no water. The dirty cups and glasses left there on our arrival were still sitting there when we checked out three days later.The "Green Sludge" Pool: The pool area was a biohazard. The pool itself was completely out of service and filled with green sludge, surrounded by smelly, mouldy umbrellas.False Advertising at the Restaurant: Breakfast offered three nice options on paper, but you simply received whatever they happened to have that day. Dinner was a joke; I ordered the crispy fish with sauced vegetables and was served fish, dry rice, and a side of commercial tomato sauce because they "had no vegetables today.

Wir waren auf Sumatra viel in Homestays und anderen pragmatischen Unterkünften unterwegs und sind dadurch eigentlich nicht pingelig. Wir hatten allerdings bei dem Preis und den bisherigen Rezensionen eine deutlich andere Erwartungshaltung. Der Preis ist unverhältnismäßig hoch für das, was man bekommt.
Dass der Pool renoviert wird, erfuhren wir erst nach der Buchung. Für uns eine besondere Enttäuschung, hatte ich doch extra wegen des Pools dieses Hotel gebucht und hätte sonst ein anderes ausgewählt. Man bot allen Gästen an, dass wir den Pool eines anderes Resorts inkl. kostenloser Softgetränke umsonst nutzen können und dort auch vom Hotel hingefahren werden (ca. 1km Entfernung) - das ist aber nicht das gleiche, als wenn man einfach spontan im eigenen Hotel an den Pool gehen kann.
Das Personal war sehr bemüht, aber wirkte ziemlich unerfahren und auch nicht proaktiv.
Die Räume und das Gebäude an sich wären eigentlich schön, aber sind inzwischen etwas in die Jahre gekommen und könnten eine Renovierung vertragen.

Het zwem bleek stuk te zijn, daarover werden we enige dagen vooraf geïnformeerd, maar de situatie moet al langer zo geweest zijn.

La falta evidente de mantenimiento por parte de la propiedad. Al llegar la piscina estaba vacía, a pesar de ser el reclamo principal de su página web. Solamente había un kayak disponible, el otro no estaba en condiciones.
Tiene muchas escaleras, no es convneiente para personas con problemas de mobilidad.

The first night we stayed the water ran out n we did not have water in the toilet. Perhaps they have a pump system for the water n need to be refilled.

Deben actualizar instalaciones, está algo anticuado, tienen un problema en la piscina que no se puede usar pero dan opción de ir a otra de otro Hotel

The room next to reception which very inconvenience. The operation manager(IBU) need to learn how to talk to customer.
Not worth for the price paid for the room.
Next to the hotel is camping area which people like to sing song very loud till late night and can't sleep.

Het bed is erg gammel waardoor, als je er met z’n tweeën in ligt, wakker wordt wanneer de ander beweegt.

Het water in het zwembad was erg vies. Verder heeft het hotel wel echt een opknapbeurt nodig.

Wij zijn helaas twee dagen eerder vertrokken. Het hotel zit in een vervelende situatie met het vorige management, ook te lezen op hun site. De mensen die er nog wel werken doen erg hun best maar dat maakt het helaas niet goed. Het zwembad staat leeg en er is weinig eten in de keuken aangezien ze helemaal dicht gaan. Kijk even goed of je het waard zou vinden hier nog te boeken want voor dat geld was dat het voor ons niet waard. Wij hebben met de huidige manager afgesproken dat we de laatste twee dagen terug krijgen en dit regelen we nu met booking.

La piscina no estaba en buen estado, supongo que se debe a que van a cerrar en septiembre por lo que no le dan mantenimiento. Aún así, los empleados están súper comprometidos con dar el mejor servicio a los huéspedes con los recursos que tienen disponibles.
