A walk up the Sacred Way brings you to the Capitoline Hill and Il Vittoriano, one of modern-day Italy’s most magnificent monuments.
After the visit you head outside to see the Arch of Constantine followed by the Roman Forum. The Forum was the hub of social, political and religious activity in Ancient Rome. Around this main square you will see the ruins of the 1st-century Arch of Titus, the House of the Vestal Virgins, the Temple of Saturn, the Senate House, and the white marble Arch of Septimius Severus.
You meet your guide at the Colosseum and explore this magnificent amphitheatre, the largest Roman arena in the world.
.Another walk brings you to the Trevi Fountain, most famously seen in Fellini’s La Dolce Vita. Follow legend; throw a coin in the fountain and make a wish that you will return to Rome one day!There is then time for lunch (own expense).
Following lunch you head to the Government District to see the Parliament Building, the Palace of the Council of Ministers and the Column of Marcus Aurelius. The Temple of Hadrian is close by; this magnificent edifice was built by the Emperor Antonius Pius to honor his great predecessor.
A walk down a narrow “vicolo” brings you to the Pantheon to see the tomb of Raphael, the Renaissance painter and architect.
You then pass the Ancient Baths of Nero on your way to Piazza Navona to see Bernini’s wonderful Fountain of the Four Rivers.
The day ends with a walk across the Tiber to the Vatican. Here you will visit the Vatican Museums to see its magnificent artworks
Of course you cannot miss frescoes by Raphael and Michelangelo’s famous ceiling frescoes in the Sistine Chapel.
