What to expect

This experience is available in both the morning and the afternoon, offering the same authentic cultural immersion regardless of the departure time.

Your journey begins with a hotel pickup in Quito, followed by a scenic 30-minute drive to the outskirts of the city. Along the way, your guide will introduce you to a different side of Quito, sharing insights into everyday life, local traditions, and the social realities that have shaped the city's communities.

Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed into the home of Abuela Gladys, where generations of family traditions are still part of daily life. This is not a museum or a tourist restaurant, it's a genuine family home where you'll experience Ecuadorian hospitality firsthand.

As you explore the house and its gardens, Abuela Gladys will share stories from her more than 70 years of life, offering a heartfelt glimpse into Ecuadorian culture, family values, and the traditions that have been passed down through generations.

Together, guided by Abuela's tips and techniques, you'll prepare delicious corn tortillas cooked on a traditional clay griddle (tiesto) and freshly made Ecuadorian empanadas, just as local families have done for decades.

The experience concludes around the family table, where you'll enjoy the dishes you've prepared together while sharing conversation, laughter, and unforgettable moments with your hosts.

After saying goodbye to Abuela Gladys and her family, you'll return to Quito with a deeper understanding of Ecuador's culture, traditions, and the warmth that makes its people so special.
