Northern Drum Making Workshop Craft Your Own Drum

Create your own traditional frame drum in this hands-on workshop surrounded by the peaceful nature of Kuusamo. Using natural materials such as reindeer hide and a wooden frame, you will craft a beautiful personal instrument while learning about drum traditions from of the north. You will also make a unique drum beater from a natural tree branch and felted wool.

The experience begins with preparing the drum frame and cutting the hide, which will soak in clear lake water to soften. During a relaxing break, enjoy a warm vegetarian soup lunch and spend time in nature. In the afternoon, the hide is stretched over the frame and tightened with leather cords. The workshop ends with a calming drum journey by the fire.

No previous experience is required — just curiosity and a willingness to create something meaningful with your hands.
