The Ancient City, or Muang Boran, is a massive open-air museum shaped like the map of Thailand. Located in Samut Prakan, just 30 kilometers from Bangkok, it showcases Thailand’s history and culture in one place. Here, you can explore replicas of temples, palaces, and ancient ruins—most built to one-third of their original size. Some structures are even original buildings, carefully relocated and rebuilt. As you wander through the park, you’ll journey through Thailand’s great kingdoms, including Lanna, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, and Rattanakosin. Muang Boran was created by Khun Lek Viriyaphant, the visionary behind the Erawan Museum and the Sanctuary of Truth. His goal was to preserve Thailand’s rich heritage and make it accessible in one location. With its peaceful atmosphere and stunning architecture, Muang Boran feels like walking through a living archaeological site. Bring your camera—you’ll find endless photo opportunities.
