Start your day with an early morning departure from Marrakech, embarking on a pleasant drive towards the southern region.
As we wind our way up through the scenic Moulay Brahim Gorge and upper valleys, the majestic peaks of the Western High Atlas Mountains come into view.
Our trailhead begins at Imi Oughlad (1450m), where we meet our experienced Berber muleteer crew. We set off on a northwest direction, ascending along switchback mule tracks for approximately 2 hours, passing through cornfields, pine forests, and juniper trees. The trail leads us to the Tizi n'Tachete pass (2000m), offering panoramic views of the Imlikl and Ait Oussaden valleys. After a short break, we continue our hike for another half hour to reach Imi n'Ifri, where we enjoy a field picnic surrounded by natural beauty.
We embark on a leisurely 2.5-hour hike southwest, following a dirt track that takes us along the Assif n'Ait Oussaden river to the terraced village of Tiziane (1750m). Here, we settle into our comfortable accommodations in a bivouac or gite, ready to rest and rejuvenate for the next day's adventure.
After a hearty breakfast, we begin our hike along the picturesque Assif n'Ait Oussaden valley. Passing through walnut groves, we ascend towards the Tizi n'Taghrhourte pass (1995m) before reaching a rare, almost flat stretch. Enjoy the serene atmosphere as we arrive at Assaka spring, where we stop for a refreshing field picnic after approximately 2 hours of relatively easy walking.
In the afternoon, we continue our hike along the forest edges, gradually descending until we reach the Berber village of D'knt (1870m) or Agouns n'Assoul. Here, we enjoy a delicious dinner and spend the night in a cozy bivouac or gite, immersing ourselves in the warmth and hospitality of the local community.
Our morning begins with a 3-hour hike through picturesque groves of walnut trees, fields of corn and barley, and encounters with local shepherds tending to their sheep and goats. We ascend the Tizi n'Tagdalte pass and descend through the enchanting juniper trees until we reach a serene small spring nestled among the greenery. Here, we pause for a delightful picnic, surrounded by nature's beauty.
After refreshing ourselves, we continue our journey, descending along winding tracks that traverse the upper slopes for approximately 3 hours. Along the way, we cross a small river at the beginning of the Assif n'Ait Oussaden valley. As we make our way further, we enter the village of Tizi Oussem (1850m), and then ascend to the summer village of Tamsoult, where we will set up camp or find accommodation in a gite.
Today, we embark on a trek to a small waterfall located at Azib Tamsoult, allowing us to admire its beauty before we start our return journey. We then cross the Tizi 'n Mzik pass, situated at an elevation of 2,500m. As we traverse this pass, we are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.
Following the pass, we join the main Toubkal valley at Imlil (1,900m), where we enjoy a well-deserved lunch. Afterward, we bid farewell to the mountains and drive back to the vibrant city of Marrakech.
