(You need to book the round-way train tickets between Shanghai and Beijing on your own in advance. Please arrive at Beijing before 12:00 noon)
The first stop on your Beijing tour is the famous Forbidden City, which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the imperial palace of China for over 500 years. Follow the footsteps of your private guide to explore magnificent halls, intricate courtyards, and beautiful gardens to gain a deeper understanding of China's imperial history.
After that, be guided to Tian'anmen Square, an iconic landmark and the heart of Beijing. It is one of the largest public squares in the world. Learn the stories of historical events and appreciate the iconic buildings around the square, including the Monument to the People's Heroes and the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall.
After the visit, end today's itinerary with an exterior visit to the marvelous Bird's Nest and Water Cube which were built for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Walking around the outside of the building to appreciate the unique design and take some pictures would be perfect.
In the morning, your tour guide will pick you up at the hotel and then you will be transferred to explore the Mutianyu Great Wall, one of the best-preserved sections of the Great Wall in China. Its majestic walls and enemy towers, as well as its pristine natural scenery, make it one of the most popular sections among tourists. Take a cable car (optional, at your own expense) or hike up to the top of the city wall to revel in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
After the Great Wall tour, move on to Summer Palace, the best place where the emperors of the Qing Dynasty spent their summers. Here you will enjoy the amazing lake view, explore the exquisite long corridor, appreciate precious cultural relics, step on the elegant stone bridge, etc. In addition, you can take the option of a boat ride to enjoy the stunning Kunming Lake (not included).
After the tour, it's time to say goodbye to Beijing! Your driver will drive you to the train station for your high-speed train to Shanghai (please book the ticket departing after 6:00 PM).
