Since February 1953, this has been the home of Mother Teresa and her sisters. She lived, prayed, and worked here while leading her community of sisters around the world. This is also the place where she was laid to rest.
The Victoria Memorial is a grand white marble monument built between 1906 and 1921 in memory of Queen Victoria (1819–1901). Today, it serves as both a museum and a popular tourist attraction managed by the Ministry of Culture. Located on the Maidan near Jawaharlal Nehru Road (Chowringhee Road), the memorial covers 57 acres of land with 21 landscaped gardens. Inside, it houses over 28,000 artifacts and nearly 4,000 artistic paintings. Attracting around 2 million visitors each year, the Victoria Memorial remains one of the most iconic landmarks to visit in Kolkata.
Next, our guide will take you to the Indian Museum, the oldest and largest museum in the country. It’s one of the top attractions in Kolkata, especially for youngsters, offering a chance to explore India’s rich cultural and traditional heritage.
Our trip ends at Prinsep Ghat, located along the banks of the Hooghly River. Built during British rule, this memorial reflects a blend of Greek and Gothic architecture. At night, the area comes alive as the Setu glows with dazzling lights, making it one of the best places to visit in Kolkata after dark. It’s also a favorite picnic spot where families come to relax and enjoy the cool breeze from the river.
