Central Game reserve is one of the biggest reserve in Botswana, expect to see different topography, The name Deception comes from an ancient river that has been bone dry for a very long time. the river has left a valley with a very big pan.The pan has blue grey soil which makes a mirage-style effect look as if the pan is filled with water. This deception is most noticeable from the air and at times during the day, from up close, the illusion can be very real deceiving to many who do not know its character. During the rainy season, the grass in the valley is lush and green. The site of thousands of animals can make you forget how dry the area is in general. Despite being in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Deception Valley is grassed and lies between wooded dunes. This habitat provides for wildlife year round, even during the dry season when there is no surface water.
