Next, you will see the Dome of St. Peter's Basilica from an up close perspective. A lift ride will take you to the main level inside the vault, offering a fantastic view of the staggering mosaics and embellishments. From this view you really can admire the artisans’ effort and technique used for such intricate work. Climb the 281 steps to the highest point of the Dome. At the top, your guide will point out notable points of interest from one of the best views of the entire city of Rome.
When you return to ground level, explore St. Peter’s Basilica, see Michelangelo's Pietà, the only piece of work the famous sculptor ever signed. Enter the underground ecclesiastical tomb, where throughout the centuries, a significant number of Popes have been buried, and investigate the various houses of prayer, and shrouded graves.
