Hotels in/ around Arusha, Kilimanjaro/ Arusha Airport
Pick up from hotel in Arusha at around 07:00am and drive on a tarmac road 120Km to Tarangire N.P (2,850 Km2) with packed lunch for the game drives. The Park has natural vegetation mainly consisting of Acacia woodland and giant Baobab trees, with huge swamp areas in the south. Herds of up to 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for underground streams during the dry season, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, Hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. It's the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem "a smorgasbord for predators", and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared oryx are regularly observed. More ardent bird-lovers might keep an eye open for screeching flocks of the dazzlingly colorful yellow-collared lovebirds, and the somewhat drabber Rufus-tailed weaver and ashy starling all endemic to the dry Savannah. Dinner and overnight at Migombani Camp. Meal Plan: {L, D}.
Breakfast at 0700am. Drive to Ngorongoro rim (19.2 km of diameter, 610m deep, 304 sq km) and descend into the crater floor for a game drive with your lunch packed. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most densely crowded African wildlife areas in the world and is home to an estimated 30,000 animals including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino. Supported by a year round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro Crater supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is its huge population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard. Ngorongoro Crater is often called 'Africa's Garden of Eden' the '8th Natural Wonder of the World'. This breathtaking oasis provides a haven for both predator and prey to live among grasslands. Dinner and overnight at Migombani Camp. Meal Plan: {B, L, D}.
Breakfast at 0700am. Thereafter drive into Lake Manyara National Park (330 sq km) on the base of the Great Rift Valley, for the game drive. This park is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located wildlife areas, consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake located at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The park’s varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, Lake Manyara’s unique tree-climbing lions, as well as large flocks of flamingos. Lake Manyara is a scenic gem, with a setting extolled by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”. From the entrance gate, along the roadside, blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bush buck tread warily through the shadows, and out sized forest horn bills honk cacophonous in the high canopy. After game drive, drive back to Arusha for the drop off. Meal Plan: {B, L}.
