Reykjavik City Sightseeing Tour We’ll embark on a Reykjavik City Tour, where we’ll explore the capital’s top attractions and uncover fascinating stories about its history and culture. As we travel through Reykjavik and the surrounding municipalities, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to discover all the things you can see and do during your stay in Iceland.
We’ll visit Þingvellir National Park, a truly unique location where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are slowly drifting apart. Few places in the world offer such a clear and striking view of this incredible geological activity. Within the park, you’ll also find Thingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland, home to a wide variety of fish and birdlife, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts. But Þingvellir isn’t just a natural wonder—it’s also a place of great historical significance. This is where Icelanders founded their parliament in 930 A.D., with chieftains gathering here every summer for their annual meeting. The name “Þingvellir” translates to “Parliament Plains,” a nod to its pivotal role in Icelandic national history.
Our next stop is at the Geysir Geothermal Area, home to hundreds of vibrant hot springs and two incredible geysers. The first, Geysir, is the namesake for all geysers around the world, though it erupts infrequently these days. The real star of the show is Strokkur, which erupts every 5 minutes, sending hot water shooting up to 40 meters into the air, creating a spectacular display you won’t want to miss.
Next, we're visiting Gullfoss, also known as the "Golden Falls." This majestic waterfall is fed by the melting waters of Langjökull, Iceland’s second-largest glacier, and plunges into a deep canyon, creating a truly awe-inspiring sight. On a sunny day, you can catch a glimpse of Langjökull in the distance and perhaps even see a rainbow forming in the mist of the waterfall—an Instagram-worthy moment just waiting to happen!
We will also have a stop at the Brúarfoss Waterfall, unique for its vivid blue color, caused by the minerals in the water, and its multiple cascading streams that flow through a rugged landscape. Though a relatively off-the-beaten-path, the hike to Brúarfoss offers a peaceful escape and a chance to witness one of Iceland's most picturesque natural wonders.
On this day of the tour, we are heading to Seljalandsfoss, another iconic waterfall that will immediately capture your attention with its powerful presence. The experience truly begins when you hear the roar of the waterfall announcing your arrival. If you're ready for an unforgettable adventure, we’ll put on a raincoat and take a short hike behind the falls, where you’ll be surrounded by the sheer force of the water. The view from behind the waterfall, along with the trembling ground beneath your feet, will create a scene that’s guaranteed to be an Instagram favorite!
Moving on to Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s most picturesque waterfalls. Tucked into a small gorge, the Skógá River tumbles down a 60-meter cliff, creating a dramatic sight as the water flows toward the Atlantic Ocean. For an extra adventure, we can climb the staircase beside the gorge, which takes you to a shelf above the waterfall, offering stunning panoramic views. See if you can count all the steps on your way up!
The final stop of the day will be at Reynisfjara, the famous Black Sand Beach, where the powerful waves of the Atlantic crash against the unique basalt columns that line the cliffs above. The towering rock pillars in the water and the distant cliffs of Dýrhólaey create an awe-inspiring landscape. This area is also a paradise for bird lovers, especially in the summer months from June to August, when puffins and other unique bird species nest along the cliffs.
We’ll kick off the day by heading to the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, a remarkable 200-meter-deep glacial lagoon fed by Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet glacier of Europe’s largest glacier. Throughout the year, enormous icebergs break off from Breiðamerkurjökull and float into the lagoon, creating a surreal landscape filled with floating ice. During the summer, you’ll have the chance to book a boat ride, allowing you to glide between the icebergs and get a closer look at this ancient, glistening ice. If boating isn’t your preference, we’ll take a peaceful walk along the lagoon’s edge, soaking in the magnificent views and the serene silence of Icelandic nature.
On the other side of the road lies Diamond Beach, where the icebergs from Jökulsárlón are carried into the Atlantic Ocean by the tide and winds. Here, the icebergs are washed back onto the shore, creating a stunning sight on this black sand beach. The ice chunks, in all shapes and sizes, sparkle like diamonds in the daylight, with shades of white and blue forming striking contrasts. It’s a photographer’s paradise, and you’ll definitely want to capture this unforgettable landscape to make your Instagram pop!

You are driven in a specially modified Super Jeep to the glacier, where you get to explore the glacier environment, enjoy a view out of this world, go into and underneath the glacier and experience the glacier’s beauty from the inside! We’ll start the day by driving along the stunning East Fjords of Iceland, where the dramatic landscapes will take your breath away. Keep an eye out for wild reindeer, as these majestic creatures are permanent residents of this area. If you’re visiting during the summer, we’ll make a detour to Borgarfjarðarhöfn to visit the natural habitat of the puffins, offering you the chance to see these charming birds up close.
Next, we’ll explore Eggin í Gleðivík, a fascinating site where giant sculptures of eggs representing the different species of resident birds in Iceland line the coast. This unique art installation is as educational as it is beautiful, offering a glimpse into the diverse birdlife of the region.
We’ll also take a stroll through the Christmas Tree Garden, a delightful spot filled with festive cheer year-round. Nearby, we’ll visit an old Viking village, beautifully situated beside the picturesque Vestrahorn and Stokksnes, where the rugged mountains meet the sea, creating an unforgettable backdrop.
Today, we will be heading to Goðafoss, a breathtaking waterfall that plunges over a 12-meter-high curved precipice. Known as “The Waterfall of the Gods,” Goðafoss offers several viewpoints, allowing you to take in the full majesty of this natural wonder.
Afterward, we’ll explore the Mývatn region, famous for its caves, waterfalls, and the stunning Lake Mývatn itself.
Later, we’ll make our way to Stuðlagil Canyon, a hidden gem lined with impressive basalt columns. Reaching this picturesque canyon requires a bit of effort, but the reward is well worth it as you’ll be surrounded by one of Iceland’s most stunning landscapes.
Our next stop will be Hverir, a fascinating geothermal hotspot where you’ll witness boiling mud pools and steaming fumaroles emitting sulfuric gas, giving you an otherworldly experience. For those visiting in the summer, we can also take a detour to Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall, for an extra dose of natural awe.
We’ll begin the day in Akureyri, often referred to as the “City of Love” and Iceland’s capital of the north. We’ll take a city tour to explore some of its highlights, including the charming Christmas House and the stunning Akureyrarkirkja, a striking church that towers over the town. If you’re visiting during the summer, we’ll also have the opportunity to take a relaxing stroll through the beautiful Botanical Gardens of Akureyri, where vibrant flowers bloom in a peaceful setting.
We'll then visit Hvitserkur, an impressive 15-meter-tall basalt rock formation visible from the black-sand beach. This striking island is often compared to a dragon or rhino, with its unique shape capturing the imagination of many. Hvitserkur has even appeared in numerous advertisements, showcasing its iconic and mysterious silhouette.
