    Studlagil canyon

Travel from Seyðisfjörður through scenic East Iceland landscapes to the remarkable Stuðlagil Canyon, one of the country’s most striking natural formations. Hidden for decades beneath glacial waters, the canyon was revealed after river levels dropped, uncovering a dramatic stretch of towering basalt columns shaped by ancient volcanic activity. At the canyon, you can walk along well-marked paths and viewpoints overlooking the vivid river, whose colors range from turquoise-blue to silty grey depending on certain conditions. The setting in the remote Jökuldalur valley offers a sense of untouched wilderness, making it an ideal stop for photography and quiet exploration. This is one of the most unique and accessible places in Iceland to experience basalt column formations up close in a truly raw natural environment.

    Rjukandi Waterfall

If time allows we will also stop at Rjúkandi Waterfall, just off the Ring Road, where the sound of rushing water cuts through the quiet of the valley. You step out and already see the cascade dropping in tiers between dark basalt walls. A short walk brings you closer, mist in the air, ground a bit damp underfoot, the waterfall growing louder with every step. It’s a quick pause, but it feels like a proper breath of Iceland before getting back on the road.
