In Hopkins, this shared Garifuna cultural and culinary experience takes you to Kalipuna Cultural Heritage Island, a destination designated for the preservation of Garifuna culture. Learn from Afro-Indigenous advocates through hands-on cooking classes focused on traditional recipes and methods, talk with knowledgeable Garifuna elders about the culture’s history, and explore the herbal garden to learn about herbs used for recreational and medicinal purposes. Sit down to enjoy a Garifuna meal made during the class, with dishes adaptable for guests with special dietary needs. A Garifuna drumming session led by an instructor brings the experience to a close, and kayaks are available as part of the activity.
