Experience the remnants of Communism in the capital of Hungary as they come alive during this tour through an expert historical commentary and family stories.
We are committed to tell the history of modern Hungary as objectively and factually as possible while we are happy to include our own personal opinion and personal life experiences.
The tour includes seeing parts of Buda and Pest as well as a drink at a cult café which opened in 1961 and hasn't changed much since.
What's Included
Meeting and pickup
The meeting point is in front of the Kempinski hotel, facing the Ferris wheel. In case of bad weather (rain, snow, huge wind) we meet in the hotel lobby.
We end the tour usually in Bambi Cafe on the Buda side close to the center and Margaret bridge. On colder / wet days we often end on the Pest side in the center close to where we begin the tour.

Former Stalin square with interesting monuments and stories

2St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika)
We talk about the churches and religious life during Communism, mentioning our family stories. We walk by the church and see it from the outside.

3Szabadsag ter
See remnants of Communism from memorials through statues and embassies (and even part of a bunker from the outside) with stories making them alive.
45 minutes • Admission ticket free -
4Hungarian Parliament Building
We cover one of the most important events of the 1956 revolution - the so-called "Bloody Thursday" which happened on Kossuth square, in front of the Parliament.
