    Quito City - Cotopaxi National Park - Riobamba City

    Quito

    Early departure from Quito city to head out to the Cotopaxi National Park which is located 48 miles south of Quito. We will drive to south of Quito crossing by the most populated area of the Capital. In few minutes, we can reach out the first volcanic view which is part of the Andes.

    Machachi

    On the way to the Cotopaxi volcano, we observe and photograph two of the most representative volcanoes in this area, the Illinizas whose peaks reach out a height of 17,218 feet. Also from this point, we can see another volcano called Corazon which has a height of 15,709 feet.

    Cotopaxi National Park

    Good moment to taste an energy drink known as Coca Tea to counteract the altitude effects. This Andean beverage was drunk by Incas and mitigated certain discomforts on the highlands. Afterwards, the trip continues in the National Park to cross different volcanic sceneries. At the foot of the volcan, our guide will be waiting for us with the Andean horses. And after a brief familiarization with these specimens we will begin our adventure on horseback by the paths that were used by one of the oldest civilizations of the continent. The activity will be carried out for two hours around the lower part of the Cotopaxi Volcano. A snack will also be part of this day and then continue our journey towards the city of Riobamba.

    Riobamba

    After a short break the trip continues on the southern Andes. Several towns can be seen when we are passing by, the trip will be a mixture of mountains, eucalyptus forest and green pastures that are mixed with the syncretism of the people. Perhaps, indigenous children look´s catch you in their sweet dreams or thoughts.

    Riobamba city - Guano indigenous town - Chimborazo Fauna Reserve

    Riobamba

    After breakfast, we head towards the Chimborazo fauna reserve. On the way, we will cross through colorful towns full of dynamism that gives the commerce of this area.

    We will visit one of the most traditional indigenous towns know as Guano. Guano is proud because it is considered the artisan capital of Ecuador. Within the best-known crafts that can be found in this canton are the weaving of Guano carpets and leather.

    Mount Chimborazo

    We are walking up from the first refuge to the second one, this walk takes approximately 45 minutes and is at a height from 15,912 feet to 16,601feet. On the areas are living different species such as; wild rabbits, deer, chucuris, south American foxes, Pumas, Vicuñas, Alpacas. Cultural and Historical Significance Revered by Indigenous Andean cultures for centuries as a sacred mountain. Featured in early scientific expeditions, notably by Alexander von Humboldt in the early 1800s, who attempted to climb it. In short, Chimborazo is famous not just for its height but because it combines geological, geographical, and cultural significance — making it one of the most intriguing mountains in the world.

    Upon return, we will have a break for lunch and start our return to the city of Quito where our adventure will end.
