Melbourne Red Diamond Hunt Self Guided City Exploration Game

1 hour 30 minutes (approximately)
Offered in: English

A self-guided treasure hunt across central Melbourne: a red diamond vanished from the city long ago, and the clues to where it went are hidden in plain sight on facades, arches and library steps. You follow the trail on your phone, solving a puzzle at each stop, at your own pace.

The app fills in the history as you go: the Kulin nation lands the city was built on, the Chinatown that grew out of the 1850s gold rush, the State Library of Victoria, Australia's oldest public library, opened in 1854, and Wesley Church, the centre of Melbourne's Methodist movement. Hints are built in; chat support answers 24/7.

The route starts under the clocks at Flinders Street Station, runs up through Chinatown and past the State Library, and ends at Melbourne Museum in the Carlton Gardens. About 3.3 km on flat streets, 90 to 120 minutes. Easy, and a good fit for friends, couples and first-time visitors.
