What to expect

This self-guided walking game takes you around Zadar's old town and ties each landmark to the beliefs of the early Slavs who settled this coast.

You start at the Land Gate and cross the peninsula to the Square of Five Wells, the Duke's Palace, the Town Hall, the New Gate, the market, the churches of St. Andrew and Old St. Peter, and St. Donatus on the Roman Forum. Each stop comes with a story about Slavic gods like Perun, god of thunder and oaths, Veles, ruler of water and the unseen world, and Mokosh, who protected home and harvest. To get your next clue, you solve a puzzle using what's in front of you, like an inscription above a gate or a Glagolitic letter carved on a church door.

You can play alone or bring your whole group, any day and any hour: just book a ticket and start whenever you want. The walk covers about 1.7 km (1.1 miles), takes 90-120 minutes, and ends at the Greeting to the Sun and the Sea Organ on the waterfront.
