This is a self-guided exploration game where you'll be solving a paranormal case involving real people and their wandering ghosts. The file on Dublin's old city has been open since 1954. You, with your detective and observational skills, and a little help from the app, will try to close it in 2 hours.
The route runs from St Stephen's Green through the medieval city to St Patrick's, past 13 of its darkest addresses. Your job is to hear out the dead and check their stories against the record.
You'll discover dark stories like the dean shot through his own window in 1734, thirteen women jailed for sitting up at a wake, and the fire that took seven centuries of records in an afternoon.
Each location involves inspecting a real-world object and solving a challenge.
Best after dark with your phone torch on. About 3.2 km of walking, with unlimited breaks.
Hints and 24/7 support if you get stuck.
Perfect for Halloween or any night you're in the mood for creepy ghost stories.
The game starts at the arch at St Stephen's Green. After booking, we'll message you a code and activation link. Activate with your own email, then log in to the Questo app with that email. No message? Open the Questo app, tap "Bought a quest somewhere else?" and enter your booking reference number.
The game ends in St Patrick's Close, between St Patrick's Cathedral and Marsh's Library.
You'll start at the stone arch on the corner of St Stephen's Green, where the app opens your case file and introduces the agent running it. Your first task is to read the inscription on the arch and solve a word riddle. You'll learn that the green was a marsh with a public gallows for longer than it has been a park.
You'll walk up Dawson Street to the Mansion House and solve a riddle about the city's coat of arms, which you'll spot on the gates and in the street. You'll learn how a hall built for one royal dinner became the room where a parliament declared a state.
You'll walk the length of Grafton Street, find the building in your photo and work out what's hidden under the sticker. You'll learn why the bronze fishmonger who used to stand here carries a death date when no record shows she ever lived.
You'll stop at the front gate of Trinity College and solve a riddle about the crest on a fence post. You'll learn about the Junior Dean shot through his own window in 1734, and why the record says he was shot and nobody shot him.
You'll reach City Hall at the top of Parliament Street and find the word missing from a fragment on the side of the building. You'll learn how the old Royal Exchange became the seat of the city's government, and what happened inside it in 1798.
You'll stop at Christ Church Cathedral and find the paving stone in your photo to work out what's under the sticker. You'll learn whose tomb really lies in the nave, and about the lane beside it that people gave as their home address: Hell.
You'll cross to the Four Courts on the quays, decode a scrambled instruction and carry it out on the building. You'll learn what was lost on 30 June 1922, when seven centuries of the country's records burned in an afternoon.
You'll stop at the Brazen Head and find the detail that exists only in your photo of its sign. You'll learn about Robert Emmet, said to have planned his 1803 rising here, and why nobody has ever been able to write his epitaph.
You'll walk to St Audoen's, the last medieval parish church in the city, and use a number code on a sign to find a password. You'll learn about the Green Lady said to walk the steps through the old city wall, and how her story was rewritten.
You'll finish in St Patrick's Close, between the cathedral and Marsh's Library, and follow the last directions to a shield in an iron gate. You'll learn about the bishop who locked readers in cages with his books, and is said to search his shelves at night for a letter from his niece.
