Itinerary

Duration: 5 hours 30 minutes (approximately)
  • Tiwanaku (Pass by)

You will be picked up from your hotel in La Paz and we will head to the mysterious ruins of Tiwanaku Aymara, southeast of Lake Titicaca at 70km on a trip that lasts about an hour and a half via paved road. Upon our arrival our first stop will be at the Tiwanaku Site Museum where we will appreciate a collection of lithic stones and ceramic pieces discovered in the area. Of the most frequent are the Keros ceramic vessels that were ritually buried after the ceremonies. From there we continue with the visit of the Archaeological Complex of Tiahuanaco itself. An area that was inhabited between 2000 - 1500aC. as a small agricultural town, but it was from the year 300dC that the Tiahuanaco state became an administrative center and place of pilgrimage. We will visit its temples like kalasasaya, the pyramid of Akapana, the monolith Bennett, the Puerta del Sol located on the terrace of Pumapunku in andesita (45 tons of weight), next to the creator Viracocha. The pyramid of Akapana. Here the sculpture of a figure, possibly a Puma - chaman, holding a severed head gives a macabre clue with the use of the pyramid, where the remains reveal that it was used for ritual sacrifices in which people were decapitated and disemboweled. At the end of our visit we will enjoy a typical lunch and then return to La Paz. Departure: 07:30 Arrival: 1:30 p.m.
