The Collection includes artists such as Titian, Rubens, Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Manet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Kandinsky, Hopper and Picasso. This gallery offers numerous examples of foreign painters who had not been present before: Italian Primitives and Flemish, key works from the Renaissance, numerous works from the Impressionist period, such as Monet, Degas, Van Gogh and Gauguin.
It also has outstanding works from the 20th century avant-garde: Fauvism, Expressionism, Surrealism, Abstraction and Pop Art, as well as works by two of Spain's leading painters: Picasso and Dalí.
The opening of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in 1992 gave rise, by joining the Prado and Reina Sofía Museums, to the so-called Art Triangle on the Paseo del Prado, an area that concentrates Spain's most important pictorial heritage.
