After breakfast drive to Pondicherry (3 Hrs) Pondicherry southern state is one of the last pockets of French culture in India. . The town was settled in the early part of the 18th Century by the French.The city’s main attraction is the Aurobindo Ashram established in 1926 by the saint philosopher Sri Aurobindo. The Ashram is serene and has a flower festooned tomb of Sri Aurobindo and his successor the Mother. 10 kms out of town lies Auroville, a concept in international living designed by the Mother and the French architect Roger Anger. Breakfast. Proceed to Tanjore by surface (6 Hrs) Enroute visit Chidambaram Nataraja Temple a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in the enthralling form of the Cosmic Dancer Nataraja. The peculiarity of the temple is its presiding deity - the Akasha Lingam or the ether lingam.
Later on to Kumbakonam, enroute visit GangaikondaCholapuram (famous Shiva temple) with its beautiful high towers full with many small sculptures depicting stories of old epics. At Kumbakonam visit MahaMakham tank & Brahma temple – a unique temple of its kind in India namely the Sarangapani temple. Also visit Airavatheswar temple at Darasuram (built in memory of the White elephant – AIRAVATH from the gods family).
Later transfer to Tanjore.On arrival transfer to hotel for 01 night. Tanjore is the "Rice bowl of Tamil Nadu" and famous for the Brahadeeswarar Temple. This is a daily procession and next day early morning before sunrise God Shiva is brought back to his shrine with in the temple complex. God “Shiva” here is known as Sundareshwar. After breakfast proceed for a day excursion to Rameshwaram (6 Hrs) and back. Rameswaram, known as the Varanasi of the south, Rameswaram is a major pilgrimage centre for both Shaivites and Vaishnavaites as It was here that Rama (an incarnation of Vishnu in the Indian epic the Ramayana) offered thanks to Siva.
