This self-guided tour begins at Plaza de San Juan de Dios, where a statue of politician Segismundo Moret stands near the neoclassical City Hall. You'll explore the medieval quarter of El Pópulo through its ancient gates and past the remains of a Roman theater that once held 20,000 spectators. Walking through narrow streets where Islamic, medieval, and colonial architectural influences blend, you'll discover how this compact city reinvented itself through centuries of prosperity and decline.
