The New Orleans Museum of Art houses a collection of over 40,000 objects including works by Picasso, Matisse, Monet, Pollock, Renoir, as well as Edgar Degas who lived in New Orleans for a short time. The architecture gives the impression of a Greek temple, slightly modified, suggesting a more subtropical appearance with the inclusion of a Spanish tile roof.
The New Orleans Botanical Garden is the first classical garden in New Orleans. It was funded by the Works Progress Administration.
There are over 30,000 mature trees in City Park, including live oak, bald cypress, magnolia, slash pine, maple, crepe myrtle, palm, and pecan. Although the park lost more than 2,000 trees during Hurricane Katrina, over 5,000 replacements have been planted.
