This self-guided walking tour of Šibenik invites you to discover the town’s rich history and local charm at your own pace. The tour ends outside the Duke's Palace
You'll catch sight of St. Michael's Fortress towering over the town, a medieval stronghold with a commanding view of Šibenik and its surroundings. Entry to the fortress requires a ticket, which is not included in this tour.
We’ll stroll past Perivoj Roberta Visianija, a charming park named after the famous local botanist Robert Visiani. It’s a peaceful spot where you can enjoy the greenery amid the historical surroundings.
As you pass through Poljana Square, you’ll experience the heartbeat of modern Šibenik, with its lively cafes and shops set against a backdrop of historical buildings. It’s a place where past and present converge in everyday life.
Passing by the impressive City Hall (Gradska Vijećnica), you’ll see a fine example of Renaissance architecture that still serves as the administrative heart of Šibenik. Its elegant columns and symmetrical façade dominate the square.
You’ll pass by the Church of St. Ivan(St. John the Baptist) , a beautiful example of Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Its striking bell tower has been a part of the Šibenik skyline for centuries.
We'll walk through the picturesque Medulić Square, surrounded by old stone houses and filled with the charm of a typical Dalmatian piazza. It’s a quiet spot where history whispers through the narrow alleys.
As you pass the Church of St. Krsevan, you’ll notice its Romanesque design, which speaks to Šibenik’s early religious roots. This ancient church is one of the city’s oldest surviving monuments.
You'll pass by St. Jacob's Cathedral, a grand UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its exquisite stone carvings and impressive dome. This architectural masterpiece stands as a symbol of Šibenik’s rich history and craftsmanship.
As we walk along Šibenik’s Riva (Waterfront), you’ll enjoy views of the waterfront, where the town’s maritime past comes to life. This bustling promenade is a testament to the town’s long-standing relationship with the sea.
While walking along the waterfront, you’ll see St. Nicholas' Fortress, a coastal stronghold protecting Šibenik from naval threats. Tickets are required for entry, but they are not included in this tour.
As we approach the end of the tour, you'll pass the Šibenik City Museum, which occupies part of the former Duke’s palace. It offers a window into the town’s history, from its early days to more modern times.
