    Cinque Terre

Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso al Mare are five picturesque ancient villages located in Liguria, which emerged in the late Middle Ages. They extend along a rugged coastline of approximately 10 km and are immersed in nature in a hilly area characterized by terraced dry stone walls sloping down to the sea. This is a place where you can enjoy fabulous views, especially in summer, hiking through vineyards and olive groves. From the beginning of August, it's possible to hike the famous "Via dell'Amore," a path that has become popular among couples in love, both locals and tourists, who come to enjoy the enchanting sea views and the secluded tranquility offered by the trail. It's a 30-minute, one-way walk of 1.5 km from Riomaggiore to Manarola, and can be accessed by booking a time slot. For a more charming and interesting day, we recommend visiting Manarola, Vernazza, and Monterosso al Mare.

It's a hilly, winding road, with steep, narrow alleys leading to a small square near the sea where you'll find several seafood restaurants. Manarola doesn't have a beach; the water in the harbor is deep, and you can swim and dive from the rocks.

Its unique landscape, characterized by dry stone walls and fields overlooking the sea, defines its beauty. The town is crisscrossed by steep, narrow streets that descend to the main road and end in a small square facing the marina.

  • 26
    Monterosso al Mare

It's an ancient village that's part of the Cinque Terre, divided into two neighborhoods, two souls, both touristy in their own way. The first is ancient, charming, sophisticated, able to satisfy our neo-medieval, artistic, bohemian tastes. The second is rational, practical, modern, and seaside. The beauty of Monterosso is that these souls aren't at odds with each other; on the contrary, they coexist beautifully in subtle harmony. So much so that only a small pedestrian tunnel, just a hundred meters long, separates them. Yet, the separation between the two Monterossos can be both clear and radical. Monterosso is the classic gateway to the Cinque Terre. Probably the best place to stay, especially for those interested in the sea and beach life. It's where most trains stop, and in many ways, it feels like a small "capital." It's the largest of the Cinque Terre and offers a sandy beach with crystal-clear waters.

Remnants of its noble past include the splendid Art Nouveau buildings in the center and a villa with a vast garden of rare plants. Margaret of Antioch is the patron saint, a virgin and martyr, widely venerated by the Greeks since ancient times. Margaret, or Marina (Antioch of Pisidia, 275-290), was a Christian girl venerated as a saint by the Catholic and Orthodox churches, who consider her the patron saint of women in childbirth. In Santa Margherita, we can visit: Villa Durazzo, Santa Margherita Ligure Castle, Piazza Caprera, the Magic Flute Park, the museums of Santa Margherita Ligure, the Santa Margherita Ligure seafront, and the monument to Christopher Columbus.

Shopping enthusiasts, meanwhile, can browse the small souvenir shops, luxury boutiques selling major brands, and the famous and traditional artisan tailors. Attractions worth visiting include: the Church of the Divine Martin, the Church of San Giorgio, which houses the remains of the patron saint and whose square offers one of the most beautiful views of the village, the Oratory of Nostra Signora Assunta, and the ancient military fortress Castello di San Giorgio (also known as Castello Brown), which offers breathtaking views and is now the absolute best location for events, exhibitions, and more.
