The magnificent Hadrian’s Villa was the 2nd-century imperial residence of Emperor Hadrian, conceived as a true city spread across nearly 120 hectares. Today, visitors admire an extraordinary landscape of palaces, baths, theatres, gyms, porticoes, temples, libraries, and residential quarters that reveal the sophistication of Roman architecture. Several structures recreate monuments and places that inspired the emperor during his travels throughout the empire. The breathtaking Villa d’Este, built in the 16th century during the Renaissance, is a masterpiece of the Italian garden and one of the most enchanting landscapes in Tivoli.
