In the Panda Base, you will see lovely Giant Pandas and much smaller but more energetic Red Pandas. If lucky, you will also see newly born or very young Pandas. It's a reserve centre where Pandas are really taken good care of, and trying to help them with the issue of extremely low newborn rate.
Wenshu Monastery is the best-preserved Buddhist temple in Chengdu. It is the home of the Buddhist Association of Sichuan Province and Chengdu City. The temple was initially built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and remain very active nowadays for both Buddhist people and visitors. The nice gardens, traditional building inside and the lively neighbourhood are nice to walk around and explore.
Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant by the monastery. Explore the area and visit a market after lunch. Then pick up a brush pen and learn about Chinese calligraphy.
Explore the People's Park, where you will find people relax, enjoy life - from outdoor singing and dancing, from Mahjong game to Taichi practice. It's is one of the best places in Chengdu to sense the positive attitude of living of local people.
The Leshan Giant Buddha is a statue of Maitreya in sitting posture. The Buddha is located at the confluence of three rivers. The statue makes itself the most renowned scenic spot in that city. Begun in the year 713 in the Tang Dynasty, and finished in the year 803, the statue took people more than 90 years to carve. During these years, thousands of workers had expended their efforts and wisdom on the project. After visiting the Buddha, travel to Suji, an unknown old town where you will see the most original lifestyle you may find in Chengdu with old teahouses, local markets, restaurants, traditional buildings and friendly people. Travel up to the tea villages on the hills, enjoy the scenery and learn about the process of tea producing. Try picking tea buds and tasting fresh tea in the local tea farmer's house. Travel to Baoguo Monastery at the foot of Emei Mountain.
Overnight stay in Baoguo Monastery. This is a very cool experience - the monastery is the biggest and one of the oldest in the area. You may explore the monastery in the free time, enjoy some quiet time before dinner in the Monastery's vegetarian canteen or head out to the main street for local cuisines.
Full day visit Emei Mountain. Enjoy a walk visiting monasteries, brooks, forests along the way of a nice loop half-way up the mountain and take a bus ride back. You may also take the option of going directly to the summit instead of doing the walk. Once descend from the mountain, drive back to Chengdu.
