Great Wall of China Day Tour (L)

Today you will depart on an exciting and much-anticipated guided day trip to the Great Wall of China located approximately 2 hours from Beijing. Different sections of the wall were built over time, the earliest dating from 200 BC by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shihuang. Stretching from Lop Lake in the west to Shanhaiguan in the east, several different walls were built in the 7th century during the Ming Dynasty as border defence against invasions of neighbouring nomadic groups. The wall has also served as a border control along the Silk Road for regulation of goods and taxes and as a transportation corridor. Enjoy your day at the Great Wall of China with your guide to learn about the historical events that occurred here and to admire the incredible natural mountain landscapes surrounding you. Today you will enjoy a half-day guided tour of Beijing. You can also make your own way to explore Beijing’s Hutongs, the narrow alleys and traditional courtyard residences that were once commonplace in northern Chinese cities. At one time, Hutongs were joined together to create entire neighbourhoods. Visit a local family to experience a taste of life in a Hutong. Enjoy more free time this afternoon to visit the Summer Palace, Olympic Park and make a trip to the Silk Market for some souvenir shopping (entrance fees not included). Train from Beijing to Xi’an

Today you will check-out of your Beijing accommodation and be transferred to the bullet train station. There, board your train for a 6-hour journey to Xi’an. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your new accommodation and then you’ll have the remainder of the day at your leisure. Overnight in Xi’an.

The Museum of Qin Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses
In the morning you will have a guided visit to the infamous Xi’an Terracotta Army, a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China.
